    Role Profile

     

    As a Relief Systems Engineer on the Process Engineering team within the Engineering Services Department, you will develop safe and efficient engineering solutions for overpressure / vacuum protection. You will partner with Process Safety to meet risk reduction targets, with Technology (R&D) to evaluate processes for innovative new products, with Operations to support existing chemical plants across the site, and with project teams for implementation. This role may serve as a process design engineer on occasion. This role is located in Longview, TX, and may support other locations upon request.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop the relief systems process design for <$20MM projects during Pre-FEED (concept), FEED (definition), and Detailed Design phases for new/modified designs

    • Interface with multidiscipline Engineering project teams, Process Safety, R&D, Operations, and Maintenance organizations, and occasionally, on larger projects, interface with external engineering service providers

    • Estimate Relief Systems Process Engineering hours/schedule on projects, provide process status updates to the project team, and deliver on schedule

    • Provide the relief system process description and design basis

    • Evaluate potential overpressure and vacuum scenarios for piping and equipment, such as pumps, compressors, heat exchangers, vessels, reactors, and distillation columns

    • Design, model, document, and communicate requirements for pressure / vacuum relief devices and effluent handling systems, and work with suppliers

    • Conduct fluid flow piping hydraulic studies for process, utilities, and relief valve networks, including flares

    • Update P&IDs for changes to existing and new relief systems

    • Provide input to process engineers, process controls / interlocks / instrument design, plot plan / equipment layout, and 3D piping modeling

    • Participate in Process Hazard Analyses, LOPAs, and other safety reviews

    • Apply internal engineering standards to ensure safe design / operation and stay abreast of current technology trends and industry codes / standards

    • Conduct engineering studies and troubleshooting of existing processes and relief systems to support manufacturing engineers

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering

    • 5+ years of experience in chemical, petrochemical or related industry in Engineering and/or Operations role

    • Strong technical Chemical Engineering skills

    What Will Set You Apart

     

    + Process design and/or simulation experience

    + Understanding of process equipment, fluid flow, heat transfer, reactions, relief systems, and general process control strategies

    + Application of company or industry relief systems standards, practices and codes (e.g., API, NFPA, ASME)

    + Software experience such as Superchems, ASPEN, HTRI, AFT Arrow / Fathom, Sinet

    + Professional Engineer (PE) license
