Helena School District is seeking a certified Sign Language Interpreter for the 2025-2026 school year. Seeking Interpreters for an Elementary student, Middle School student and High School student.
The Sign Language Interpreter (Para educator Level 2) serves students who are hard of hearing or deaf individually and in small groups. This position is assigned to one student and stays with that student as they advance grades; this includes moving schools. These positions may be for up to seven (7) hours per school day. At Helena Public Schools, our vision is to foster dynamic educational experiences that prepare all students for life. As a Level ll Paraeducator/ Sign Language Interpreter, you contribute to this mission by assisting students individually and in small groups. Some of what you will do:
+ Translate the classroom lectures and/or other presentations and events from English into sign language.
+ Translate students' responses from sign language into English during class time.
+ May provide interpreting services during lunch and recess, depending on the student's needs.
+ Interpret at special events (such as field trips, student instructor conferences and special meetings).
+ Assist deaf or hard of hearing students individually or in small groups to reinforce and follow-up learning activities.
+ Assist with behavior management programs and techniques, as requested.
+ Assist in students Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals under the direction of instructional personnel.
+ May escort children to and from various rooms.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.
To become part of this dedicated team, you need:
+ A High School diploma or general education diploma (GED)
+ At least three (3) months of related experience and/or training;
+ Current certification on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment with a 3.5 score or higher;
+ Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the District.
+ Prior experience working with deaf or hard-of-hearing children is preferred.
The current entry level salary range is $15.80-$19.33 per hour in addition to a $5.00 per hour stipend depending on education level and applicable relevant school-related experience as determined by the district. Please note, salary amounts for the 2025-2026 school year are undetermined at this time. Upon negotiations, salary wages will be updated to reflect these changes.
This position includes a comprehensive benefit package including but not limited to paid sick and vacation leave, 3 paid personal days, 14 paid school calendar related days (i.e., Winter Break, Spring Break), 8 paid holidays including the day after Thanksgiving, and health benefit coverage including coverage during the summer break.
