    TEACHER OF THE VISUALLY IMPAIRED (TVI)

    (PART TIME 10 HOURS PER WEEK))

    SUMMARY

    The Campus School at Boston College is a private, publicly funded special education day school within the Lynch School of Education and Human Development on the Boston College campus. The Campus School educates students ages 3-22 with extensive support needs, including complex medical needs.

     

    Provides direct instruction to students with visual impairments and consultation services to special education teachers

    PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Conduct and interpret functional vision assessments(FVA)

     

    Conduct and interpret learning media assessments (LMA)

     

    Conduct and interpret cortical vision impairment assessments

     

    Plan and implement instructional programs for students in individual, small group or classroom sessions

     

    Interprets functional vision assessment goals, programs and progress to parents

     

    Consults with teachers and support staff to provide recommendations for

     

    adaptations and accommodations for the classroom setting

     

    Collaborates on a weekly basis with teachers and support staff as part of a transdisciplinary team

     

    Updates student progress for the annual Individual Education Plan(IEP). Attend IEP meetings.

     

    Maintains data on instruction and consultation

     

    Contributes to student’s quarterly progress reports by commenting on objectives within the realm of vision

     

    Provides in-service training to staff and on-going instruction to teachers throughout the school year

     

    Supports student enrollment in agencies such as the Massachusetts Accessible Instructional Materials Library, American

     

    Printing House for the Blind , Massachusetts Commission for the Blind, New England Consortium on Deaf blindness

     

    Supports the mission of the Campus School at Boston College as a transdisciplinary team member

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

    One or more years of teaching experience working with students with visual impairments is preferred. Knowledge of multiple disabilities, including vision impairment, blindness, or deaf blindness. Knowledge of cortical visual impairment and related assessments and strategies for students with extensive support needs.

    Experience in a school based setting with students with multiple disabilities.

    Formal Education

    Masters degree in Special Education with certification as teacher of students with visual impairments.

    CPR
