    Job Summary

    A temporary position for a polymer science and engineering research assistant is available to complete laboratory research for a federal grant. This is for a temporary part-time summer research assistant position.

     

    Primary Duties and Responsibilities

     

    + Synthesis, purification, and spectroscopic characterization of glycomonomers with different saccharide functionality

    + Synthesis of glyco-copolymers via controlled polymerization techniques

    + Synthesis of hydrogels via free radical polymerization

    + Purification of glycopolymers, copolymers, and glycopolymer hydrogels

    + Characterization of polymers via NMR, FTIR, DSC, and TGA

    + Preparation of polymer films and coatings

    + Maintaining laboratory notebook and preparation of written reports.

    + Providing weekly reports for sponsor.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications

     

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

     

    + Skilled in organic chemistry laboratory techniques.

    + Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

    + Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    + Ability to work in a team environment.

    + Ability to work independently.

    + Ability to learn new laboratory techniques and software.
