    Position Description

    The Information Systems Applications Technician 2 is to provide technical assistance to computer users. The incumbent answers questions or resolves computer problems for clients in person, or via telephone or electronically. Provides assistance concerning the use of computer hardware and software, including printing, installation, word processing, electronic mail, and operating systems.

     

    Waste Services is responsible for weekly curbside waste and every other week curbside recycling collection for over 151,000 customers in the urban services district as well as collection of over 200 public litter baskets in the downtown Nashville corridor. The department also operates four convenience centers where residents of Davidson County can bring waste, recycling, bulk items, food waste, household hazardous waste, and other items for recycling or disposal and eight recycling drop-off locations available to residents who do not qualify for curbside recycling collection.

     

    Waste Services currently employs staff members working in collection, administration, customer service, education, landfill engineering, development review, and outreach.

    Typical Duties

    + Oversees the daily performance of computer systems.

    + Answers user inquiries regarding computer software or hardware operation to resolve problems.

    + Enters commands and observes system functioning to verify correct operations and detect errors.

    + Sets up equipment for employee use, performing or ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software.

    + Installs, tests, configures, troubleshoots and performs minor repairs to hardware, software, or peripheral equipment, following design or installation specifications.

    + Maintains records of inventory, daily data communication transactions, problems and remedial actions taken, or installation activities.

    + Performs preventative maintenance on hardware and peripheral equipment

    + Requires the ability to work occasionally during weekend or evening hours.

    + Installs of workstations (hardware, operating systems, application software) following departmental standards (Windows based, and IOS/Android based OS’es).

    + Gathers information to facilitate resolution of incidents.

    + Documents known issues and resolutions to be shared with internal team members.

    + Reviews literature, consult with experts, and coordinate with vendors to identify appropriate hardware and/or software solutions to complex issues.

    + Manages v endors and tracking of issues and completion of work; billing/invoice reconciliation.

    + May be subject to on-call duty.

    + Must be able to operate Government equipment and vehicles in a safe, prudent and responsible manner.

    Minimum Qualifications

    High School Diploma and 2 years of IT customer support experience.

    OR

    Associate's Degree in a related field and 1 year of IT customer support experience.

    LICENSES REQUIRED:

    Valid Driver License

    Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

     

    Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    + Experience supporting Windows 10 and 11 operating systems

    + Experience supporting computer hardware, including laptops, desktops, tablets and peripherals

    + Experience working in a technical customer service environment

    + Experience working with a ticket tracking system (e.g. ServiceNow, Cherwell, SMAX, etc.)

    + Industry Certification such as A+, MCDST, or MCITP *
