The District Attorney’s Office seeks an Investigator to advance the mission of the DA’s Office. Investigators perform a variety of semi-complex and complex investigations of felony and misdemeanor crimes for the Office of the District Attorney; assists Senior Investigators with investigations of complex crimes as assigned.
Examples of Duties for Success
+ Conducts pre- and post-case filing investigations of complicated felony and misdemeanor cases on behalf of the District Attorney. Assists Deputy District Attorneys in follow-up work and investigation of cases, including interviewing witnesses, writing thorough reports, serving witnesses with subpoenas, preparing warrants, collecting and analyzing evidence, reviewing criminal histories, and other tasks as needed. Serves “on call” at assigned times to assist the office in after-hours tasks. Locates necessary witnesses and victims to secure their cooperation with the prosecution of critical cases. Assists in the investigation of homicide and other complex cases as assigned.
+ Specific duties include investigating and filing felony cases to completion, interviewing witnesses, writing thorough and well-documented reports, warrant preparation and working collaboratively with a team of investigators and Deputy District Attorneys to seek justice on cases.
+ May travel throughout the metro area to serve personal legal process such as subpoena, summons, asset forfeitures, legal notices to witnesses & defendants of cases filed by the District Attorney. ?Further duties include establishing, as necessary, the location of persons to be served through standardized procedures (e.g. motor vehicle records, state employment records and utility records). Provides, on an as-needed basis, the transportation of witnesses to court appearances and in-office interviews.
To be successful, our candidate should have the following knowledge, skill, and abilities:
+ A commitment to working with integrity keeping our community safe and making our criminal justice system better.
+ Considerable knowledge of civil and criminal law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, statutes and ordinance applicable to the 17th Judicial District of Colorado.
+ Ability to perform all peace officer related duties;
+ Excellent oral communication skills for working collaboratively with supervisors, Deputy District Attorneys, colleagues and for interviewing witnesses
+ Outstanding writing skills for writing thorough, well-documented reports
+ Ability to act/react in stressful and/or threatening situations and ability to operate vehicles, equipment and firearms utilized in investigative work.
+ Ability to conduct complicated investigations of felony and misdemeanor crimes under general supervisions
+ Ability to conduct interviews of victims and witnesses to crime;
+ Ability to research, categorize and analyze considerable amounts of data as required;
+ Ability to prepare, write and complete accurate reports.
+ Ability to be flexible to meet the demands and needs of the position.
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors, co-workers, attorneys, suspects, witnesses, other police agencies, personnel and the general public

+ Ability to carry a firearm and qualify with the firearm on a quarterly basis
+ Ability to sit for extended periods of time
+ Ability to stand, walk, and climb stairs while maintaining proper balance
+ Ability to see near (2') and far (20') with or without the use of prescription eyewear
+ Capable of wearing personal protective equipment to include eye and ear protection

Qualifications for Success
QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS:
+ Five (5) years of previous law enforcement experience, must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License, Certification as a Colorado Peace Officer and minimally qualified as a marksman to established unit standards.
+ Five (5) years of previous law enforcement experience as an investigator/detective
+ State law requires a physical examination and a psychological evaluation of an applicant be completed before an applicant may be appointed
+ Excellent writing and oral communication skills.
+ Ability to read, write and/or speak Spanish is desirable.
