The Valent BioSciences manufacturing site located on an expansive 73-acre site in Osage, IA is a state of the art 130,000 square foot plant and is the largest purpose-built biorational facility in the world. It serves as the manufacturing and quality control center for Valent BioSciences broad portfolio of fermentation products.
Description of Job:
As the Maintenance Technician at Valent BioSciences, you will be responsible for providing ongoing maintenance support for the VBS-Osage facility. As a critical member of the maintenance team, you will be responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of mechanical, low voltage electrical, and instrumentation systems throughout the facility. In this role you will focus primarily on the mechanical aspects of process and utility equipment, contributing to the plant’s overall performance, safety, and operational excellence.
Essential Functions:
+ Serve as a lead technician for mechanical maintenance activities involving process and utility equipment. Typical equipment includes pumps, seals, tanks, piping, agitators, gearboxes, and other rotating and stationary equipment.
+ Perform routine and corrective maintenance tasks across the plant to ensure optimal equipment functionality.
+ Build and execute preventative maintenance schedules and routines aligned with equipment manufacturer guidelines and operational needs.
+ Support the use and continuous improvement of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to manage work orders, track equipment history, and monitor performance trends.
+ Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including engineering, operations, and EH&S, to support safety, efficiency, and compliance goals.
+ Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical failures in a timely manner to minimize production downtime.
Additional Responsibilities:
+ Provide backup maintenance support for other plant equipment, including but not limited to HVAC, boilers, chillers, air compressors, and water treatment systems.
+ Support installation and upgrades of new or modified equipment as needed.
+ Assist in developing and refining safety programs, maintenance procedures, and documentation.
+ Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and reliability efforts across the site.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 5+ years of hands-on experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance within a manufacturing or process facility.
+ Proven experience with mechanical systems commonly used in fermentation, chemical processing, or biotech environments.
+ Familiarity with CMMS platforms and standard maintenance work order protocols.
+ Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair mechanical failures independently.
+ Technical training or certifications in mechanical systems, industrial maintenance, or related fields are a plus.

Base Salary: The estimated base salary for this position ranges from: $32.93 to $39.52 per hour. Individual pay is based upon location, skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
Incentives: All full-time employees are eligible for an incentive program or profit-sharing program in addition to their base salary.
