Job Summary:
An Electronics Equipment Mechanic is a journey level position responsible for the testing, installation, and repair of various types of electronic equipment including, but not limited to, television receivers, closed circuit television systems, fire alarm systems, radio receivers, public address systems, and nurse call systems. Will be involved in the repair and servicing of fire alarm systems and electronic controls for building environmental systems. Duties will include, determining the normal voltage of exposed live parts and distinguishing them from other parts of electrical equipment; inspecting Personal Protective Equipment; installing locks and tags as required to follow Lock out Tag Out procedures; installing, troubleshooting, and repairing installed systems; supervising the repair and maintenance on installed systems; ordering materials and repairing parts; installing and repairing branch circuits servicing electronics systems. Must have understanding of electrical and electronic theory, the National Electrical Code (NEC), and National Fire Alarm Code; ability to climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms; ability to use blueprints, ladder diagrams, manufactures instruction and schematics; ability to use hand and power tools associated with the trade; as assigned, ability to supervise and train others; ability to perform moderate to heavy manual labor; ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions. Must possess and maintain a valid NYS driver's license to operate a motor vehicle in NYS or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the job.
Minimum Qualifications:
New York State Department of Civil Service Eligible List or eligible for transfer.
Open-competitive (Non-competitive, NY HELPS) Qualifications:
Must meet the following in order to be considered for Provisional Appointment:
Either 1. four years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment:
Or 2. graduation from a high school technical electronics education program recognized by the New York State Education Department as meeting the standards for technical education AND three years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment;
Or 3. an associate degree in electronic technology or successful completion of a two-year technical professional certification program in the electronics field AND two years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of electronic equipment.
Examples of electronic equipment includes, but is not limited to, antenna systems, closed circuit television systems, control and indicating equipment, data systems, electronic office equipment, fire alarms, intercommunication units, intrusion and surveillance equipment, public address systems, radio equipment, security systems, and radiological monitoring equipment.
Work Days:
Monday- Friday, 7:00 AM- 3:30 PM.
Schedule based on a 40 hour work week.
