    Job Title: Surface Technology ChemistJob Description

     

    This position seeks a Chemist to support the analytical team and physical testing labs. The role involves conducting failure analysis and other testing to determine surface adhesion issues or support new applications.

    Responsibilities

    + Provide technical capabilities to support the business objectives of the lead centers.

    + Participate in specific material, process, and product development projects as required.

    + Support technology sharing and cooperative programs between and among lead centers, divisions, and corporate technical development.

    + Develop appropriate relationships with customers, vendors, and technical and trade organizations.

    + Effectively interface with the company’s multinational lead centers.

    + Possess knowledge of rubber (or plastic) formulation design, mixing, and material testing e.g., ASTM methods.

    + Possess a working knowledge of rubber fabrication, molding, and extrusion methods and types.

    + Possess a working knowledge of compound attributes related to processing and specific design function/performance.

    + Possess a working knowledge of surface chemistry, including bonding to metallic and non-metallic substrates.

    + Have a working knowledge of tooling technology associated with injection, compression, and transfer molding.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or Material Science.

    + Familiarity with computer systems, especially Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

    + Familiarity with analytical lab equipment including, but not limited to: DMA, TMA, DSC, TGA, FT-IR, NMR, SEM/EDS, GC, and HPLC.

    + Minimum 2-3 years of experience with surface technologies in areas such as adhesives, polymers, rubber, elastomers, etc.

    + Knowledge of rubber mixing and molding practices preferred.

    Work Environment

    The work environment includes modern buildings consisting of office spaces and laboratories equipped with state-of-the-art equipment. The labs, particularly the compounding lab, are currently expanding in Plymouth. The company offers a collaborative environment with opportunities for career advancement and internal promotions.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $34.62/hr.
