Newtown Savings Bank is seeking an Outside business sales officer for the role of Business Relationship Banker focusing on developing new customer relationships including business and personal accounts, small business loans, and cash management products to help drive core deposits. The Business Relationship Banker collaborates with the local branch to assist in developing long and short-term sales strategies.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Spend at least 80% of the day on business development activities including networking, establishing new relationships, expanding on existing relationships, customer retention, and community support. The primary focus is growing core business deposit accounts within our market areas, with the expectation to develop short-term and long-term sales strategies to achieve this growth.

    + Partner with other bank employees on a regular basis to help target and close new product relationships including commercial and small business loans, Treasury Management services, business credit cards, mortgages, and investment products through Newtown Investment Solutions. Meet or exceed all budgeted sales targets.

    + Think collaboratively when working with other bank partners including Commercial Lending Officers, Mortgage Loan Officers, and other Retail Banking employees to generate local business growth opportunities; for example, promoting the Workplace Advantage program.

    + Assist in account opening when needed and accept business loan applications within the scope of the Small Business Lending program.

    + Follow all procedures, compliance requirements, and regulations needed to ensure all sales activities are ethical and compliant.

    + Demonstrate energy, creativity, and a can-do attitude when assisting the Bank with deposit growth. Must be passionate about sales and fostering new ideas for targeting business prospects, retaining existing clients, and expanding our existing customer’s share of wallet.

    + Act as a sales coach and partner with assigned branches. In conjunction with the Customer Experience Manager, participate in supporting regular branch sales meetings to promote cross selling all retail products including checking and savings accounts, mortgages, credit cards, and investment products and services.

    + Expected to be available for Saturday coverage as needed.

    + Support the Bank’s Mission Statement, Vision Statement, and Core Values

    + Provide prompt and courteous service to all external and internal customers. Resolve customer complaints and refer to Retail Banking when needed for any difficult situations. Use courteous telephone etiquette when answering, transferring and calling customers. Service delivery and follow up should always translate into a positive customer experience.

    + Meet regularly with Regional Business Banking Manager to discuss sales performance, service initiatives, and employee development. Provide feedback to branch partner for annual employee performance evaluations.

    + Maintain current knowledge of all products and services and follow all CIP, BSA, AML and OFAC requirements, as set forth in the Bank’s policies, procedures and programs.

    + Participate regularly in business networking events, and in volunteer community service activities. Represent the Bank as a board member for at least one community group. Promote the Bank and the Bank’s services.

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    + Associate’s degree and above, or equivalent experience

    + 3-5 years retail banking sales experience preferred

     

    Note: Bilingual a plus (fluent English & Spanish/Portuguese)

     

    Communication Skills

     

    Must be able to communicate effectively when dealing with both internal and external customers whether in person, in writing, or on the telephone. Strong customer service skills required. Strong leadership and supervisory experience required. Must be able to speak one on one, or in small groups. Proficient in routine letters and customer correspondence. Bilingual skills are a plus (fluent English & Spanish/Portuguese).

     

    Mathematic Skills

     

    Ability to add and subtract, use a calculator and basic computer systems.

     

    Problem Solving Skills

     

    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out tasks furnished in oral and written form. Ability to perform a variety of duties without loss of efficiency or composure. Ability to multi-task as well as to perform repetitive work according to set procedures, and meet deadlines. Ability to perform well under pressure.

     

    Other Skills

     

    Must be organized, task-oriented, and work well in a team environment. Must be a keen listener with the ability to follow instructions, receive guidance and supervision, and follow work rules and procedures.

     

    Attendance

     

    Required to work weekends and/or extended hours when needed. Regular, reliable attendance is critical.
