    Description

    This is an important position at the public animal shelter. You will help care for animals, support shelter operations, and assist the public. This job includes animal handling, cleaning, customer service, and office tasks.

    We are looking for someone who:

    + Has a positive attitude and works well with others

    + Can communicate clearly with teammates and supervisors

    + Is observant and pays attention to detail

    + Can manage many tasks and stay organized

    + Is flexible and can work in a busy, changing environment

     

    This is a physical job. You will be on your feet most of the day and will be active.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities

     

    + Greet visitors and help them adopt pets

    + Teach people about pet care, pet breeds, and local pet laws

    + Safely handle all kinds of animals, including scared or aggressive ones

    + Feed animals and keep their areas clean and safe

    + Clean cages, food bowls, toys, and other supplies

    + Watch animals closely for signs of illness or stress

    + Enter and update animal information in the computer

    + Give vaccines and help test animals for diseases

    + Help with simple medical tasks like taking samples or giving medicine

    + Drive animals to vet clinics or rescue groups

    + Help with euthanasia when needed (after training)

    + Help reunite lost pets with their owners

    + Match pets with the right families for adoption

    + Train new team members on how to handle animals and use software

    + Take payments and help customers with fines and pet licenses

    + Keep paperwork organized and stored properly

    + Do other tasks as needed to support the shelter

    Education, Experience, Licensing

    + High school diploma or GED

    + Experience working with animals is preferred

    + Must have (or be able to get within 6 months) Florida Euthanasia Certification – we provide training

    + Valid driver’s license with a good driving record

    Supplemental Information

    + You will use a computer daily

    + Work hours vary between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

    + Must be able to work weekends, holidays, emergencies, and extra shifts as needed
