About this Job
This position is for a full-time, 12-month, unclassified, staff position.
Salary commensurate with credentials and experience.

Minimum Qualifications
+ Master’s degree from an accredited educational institution required.
+ Five (5) years of related experience working with college students in academic advising, student affairs, or academic affairs setting within higher education.
+ Supervisory in higher education experience, preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
+ Must have use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear and handle or feel objects and controls.
+ Must have physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office equipment such as, but not limited to, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
+ Ability to occasionally lift or carry up to 10 pounds.
+ Must be capable of sitting in stationary position for 50% or more of time.

Job Specification
This position directs the daily operations of the advising center and student success initiatives at the college. The Director supervises Advisors and Lead Advisors, coordinates proactive advising and targeted outreach strategies, and works collaboratively with institutional partners to improve student retention, persistence, and completion. The Director leads efforts to build a consistent, student-centered advising experience aligned with institutional goals, national best practices, and a culture of care.
Job Duties and Other Information
+ Supervise, mentor, and evaluate Advisors and Lead Advisors to ensure delivery of high-quality, student-centered advising services.
+ Develop and implement proactive advising strategies, including scheduled student check-ins, registration campaigns, academic planning, and follow-up on early alerts.
+ Use data to inform advising interventions, track engagement, and evaluate outcomes to increase student retention and success.
+ Design and lead outreach campaigns to connect with students at key risk points (e.g., midterm grades, course withdrawals, stop-outs or inconsistent enrollment).
+ Implement intervention and prescriptive measures to assist students who have been placed on academic probation or who exhibit other indicators of risk, such as missed advising appointments, early alert referrals, or a pattern of academic disengagement.
+ Oversee the training and onboarding of new Advisors and Lead Advisors, supporting a culture of coaching and professional development.
+ Collaborate with Academic Deans and faculty to support academic advising for programs within the academic divisions.
+ Collaborate with colleagues throughout the College to develop programs and processes to improve retention.
+ Foster innovation, student-focused problem solving, and inclusive advising practices that reflect the diverse needs of the student population.
+ Maintain an in-depth knowledge of advising procedures, policies, and mandates.
+ Exhibit excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to motivate and develop staff.
+ Serve as the college’s primary point of contact for student success strategies, advising policies, outreach efforts, and intervention models.
+ Lead departmental planning, budgeting, and assessment, including long-term strategic goals for advising and student success.
+ Actively engage in the hiring, training, and performance evaluation of departmental staff.
+ Promote a service-oriented culture across advising and student support services.
+ Represent the advising department on college-wide committees and initiatives related to retention, enrollment, and academic planning.
+ Exhibit a broad knowledge of relevant laws, such as FERPA, ADA, to ensure departmental compliance.
