    The Leeds School of Business encourages applications for a Career Coach, Finance! The primary purpose of this role is to meet with undergraduate finance students to help them understand the specific roles and requirements of working in the finance industry. Career Coaches provide students with tailored guidance on recruiting, job search strategies, and industry-specific skill development.

     

    This position plays a vital role in preparing students for successful careers in asset management, commercial banking, corporate finance, investment banking, personal financial planning, private equity, wealth management and related fields. This person will use a background and strong technical foundation in finance. The Career Coach also assists in developing career strategies for internships and fulltime job searches. This position leads and performs Career Development events and programs along with other team members. This individual will work closely with another Finance Career Coach, their Employer Relations counterpart, finance faculty and the Burridge Center for Finance.

     

    The Career Coach is responsible for meeting with students individually and in groups, to equip them in developing compelling resumes and cover letters, strengthening their interview preparation, enhancing networking techniques, salary negotiations, and for understanding their options in their job or internship search.

     

    Though finance is the primary focus, the person in this role is also expected to apply broader career coaching knowledge. This includes supporting students, at times, from any area of emphasis with career exploration, job search fundamentals, and professional skill-building that extend beyond finance-specific roles.

    What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

    Career Coaching

    + Provide one-on-one coaching and advising with students in the Leeds Business School's undergraduate program.

    + Offer mentorship on the various careers and requirements within the finance and banking industry (primarily), but also offering support to students in the exploratory phase of their career search.

    + Assist students with identifying career opportunities within the finance sector that capitalize on students' strengths and interests.

    + Explain the various roles within finance to students (asset management, corporate finance, financial services, investment banking, insurance, wealth management, etc.).

    + Stay up-to-date with trends and recruiting practices in finance, including employer timelines, expectations, and technical assessment formats.

    + Provide individually tailored coaching, feedback and assistance to students over the duration of their time at Leeds.

    + Train students to be prepared for succeeding in their job search; this includes interview preparation, resume/cover letter review, developing and delivering an effective personal brand statement, and networking.

    + Work with students to develop and continually refine a realistic job strategy/work plan for both internship and full-time employment; actively supervise the process that will determine each student's progress against career goals and provide guidance in the achievement of those goals.

    Career Education

    + Work with Associate Director and other Career Coaches to develop and deliver curricular (potentially in class instructing) and co-curricular career management programming to undergraduate business population.

    + Develop content for and conduct workshops, career panels and training sessions on various career topics.

    + Develop and maintain resources (e.g., finance recruiting guides, case prep materials, technical skills modules) for students interested in finance careers.

    + Collaborate with employer relations staff to support on-campus recruiting, employer events, and alumni engagement initiatives in the finance sector.

    + Assist in the planning and execution of career treks (including employer outreach, student selection and preparation).

    Administration, Documentation & Tracking

    + Use Salesforce to track all interactions with students and to supervise their progress and placement outcomes.

    + Work with the Associate Director, Career Coaching to develop, coordinate and complete the collection of student career interest and progress data. In addition to collecting this data, this person needs to compile and understand the results in order to evaluate and address student needs in a timely fashion.

    + Career Coaches are responsible for working with their students and the Career team to meet school-wide placement and response rate goals, along with any other broad goal for the Careers Office.

    + Work with Academic Advisors, faculty, and other undergraduate programs to share information on student progress and needs and identify intervention strategies.

    + Work with the team to ensure graduate contact information is collected and alumni contacts are up to date.

    What You Should Know

    + Hybrid work modality, three days on campus. Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm. Approximately 5 evenings/weekend days are required per semester.

     

    What We Can Offer

     

    The salary range for this position is $54,060-60,000 annually. Relocation assistance is available within Leeds guidelines.

    What We Require

    + Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.

    + 1 year of experience in the Finance industry experience.

    What You Will Need

    + Knowledge of the finance job market, the financial services industry and careers, and the use of electronic resources in the career exploration and job search process for college students.

    + Proven efficiency in written and oral communications

    + Ability to work independently and also be successful in a team environment.

    + Proven experience taking initiative to tackle problems that arise.

    + Superior customer service skills when interacting professionally with corporate recruiters, students, faculty, administrators and staff.

    + Ease and skill in using technology including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, LinkedIn and other social media.

    + Strong skills in establishing effective working relationships with a variety of partners.

    + Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends for specialized events and/or workshops.
