Under general supervision, performs front desk services including cashier and receptionist duties at an assigned location and performs related duties as required.
This position is currently assigned a Tuesday through Saturday work schedule:
Tuesday Noon - 9:00 p.m.
Wednesday through Friday 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.
Saturday 7:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.
(Sunday & Monday - OFF)
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs front desk services and operations at an assigned location providing excellent customer service, including but not limited to as applicable, interacting with customers to answer questions and resolve problems, directing customers to proper locations, providing information, processing payments, scheduling rooms, making reservations, checking equipment in and out, and assisting the public in general.
Performs cash handling in accordance with city and department cash handling policies. This includes operating a cash register drawer and compiling daily cash balances and deposit reports.
Communicates effectively with customers in person and over the telephone.
Communicates and enforces policies and procedures.
Assists in the maintenance of various records such as inventory, activity reports, receipts, memberships, reservations, and minor financial accounts.
May assist in quality control type responsibilities, which could include, but is not limited to verifying cash outs, running a variety of reports, monitoring of information collection and distribution at the front desk.
Trains and mentors less experienced staff on duties and procedures and may provide functional supervision.
Controls facility admission, including collecting drop-in fees, I.D. verification, processing membership registrations and punch card sales, and dispensing photo I.D. cards.
Observes guest use and informs supervisors of improper facility or equipment use.
Performs program registration during peak demand periods.
Assists with general facility supervision and acts as the Manager on Duty on limited occasions.
May be responsible for working the opening and closing shift.
May be required to work evenings, weekends, and/or holiday shifts.
Assists with special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
High school diploma or GED; three years of progressively responsible customer service, receptionist, or cash handling experience, preferably in the related (i.e., recreation, arts, etc.) setting. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.
Knowledge of general office practices and procedures.
Knowledge of basic mathematics, spelling, grammar, punctuation and vocabulary.
Knowledge of RecTrac.
Knowledge of recreation facilities and operations.
Skill in organizing and managing multiple competing tasks.
Skill in maintaining filing systems.
Skill in working independently in the absence of supervision.
Skill in exercising independent judgment when prioritizing duties.
Ability to perform more complex and responsible types of guest relations functions.
Ability to provide quality guest services.
Ability to handle money accurately, conscientiously, and honestly.
Ability to work in a high-usage, fast-paced environment.
Ability to understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
Ability to understand and apply policies and procedures.
Ability to read, interpret, explain, and enforce policies or procedures to constituents.
Ability to identify problems or issues, analyze data, and make sound recommendations based upon findings.
Ability to train, mentor, and provide functional supervision as required.
Ability to operate standard office equipment, including cash register drawer, personal computers, punch card sales equipment, camera, account balancing equipment, facsimile, photocopiers, and multi-line telephones.
Ability to use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software required for the position such as RecTrac, Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with city employees and the general public.
Ability to deal with the public in a mature, effective, and responsible manner.
Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.
Ability to maintain appropriate keyboard skills necessary for successful job performance.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, finger, talk, hear, see, and make repetitive This position is considered “Light Work” which involves exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The employee is required to have close visual acuity.
