    General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) is a supplier of advanced electromagnetic systems, related power equipment and other high technology products for a variety of government and commercial applications. These include products such as the design and fabrication of linear motors, superconducting and conventional rotating motors, power inverters, high-energy capacitors, radiation monitoring systems, high-voltage direct current power distribution systems, and numerous other products.

     

    We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Product Support Engineer to join our Radiation Monitoring Systems Group located in Rancho Bernardo, CA. This position is responsible for evaluating, interpreting, and resolving complex engineering problems to meet customer requirements.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    + Develops innovative but practical solutions to advanced technical problems in Radiation Monitoring Systems Design.

    + Supports change engineering activity by identifying and proposing changes to baseline documentation.

    + Generates plans and procedures for systems qualification testing, as well as factory acceptance testing, utilizing engineering and scientific principles.

    + Participates in the internal and external technical project/program reviews including preliminary and critical/detailed design reviews to ensure they meet defined product requirements.

    + Troubleshoots conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements.

    + Addresses complex and difficult technical issues in radiation monitoring systems, drawing from advanced engineering concepts and/or highly creative approaches.

    + Create Radiation Detector calibration procedures and reports. Work closely with Radiation Detector technician during the calibration process.

    + Provides focal point for technical communication within the Company management and may represent the Company as the prime technical contact to customers and/or government regulatory agencies.

    + Prepares and reviews documented design inputs for electrical and mechanical design, as well as calculations required to support design of radiation monitoring equipment.

    + Reviews requirement matrix and/or statement of work to generate basis of estimates in support of customer proposals.

    + Responsible for observing all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.

    + May be asked to participate in design activity for other product areas inclusive of power systems, and nuclear reactor systems.

    + Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

    Job Qualifications:

    + Typically requires a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; four or more years of experience with a bachelor’s degree or two or more years of experience with a master’s degree. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.

    + Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.

    + Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Systems Engineering backgrounds are preferred.

    + Experience testing and/or qualifying electrical components is desirable.

    + Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.

    + Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas; capable of representing the organization as a prime technical contact and lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees on single component projects.

    + Able to work extended hours as required.

    + A Professional Engineering License and original work published in professional engineering journals are desirable.

    + Reactor facilities engineering design experience is preferred.

    + Familiarity with 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, or Nuclear Procurement/Commercial Dedication a plus but not required.
