    Wayne State University is searching for an experienced​Associate Director, Post Award Services - Department of Oncologyat its Detroit campus location.

    Essential functions (job duties):

    Direct professional staff of Grant Contract Administrators to ensure timely and accurate submission of interim and final financial reports to SPA. Provide direction to staff, manage assignments, adjust workload as necessary to ensure all financial reports, grant closeouts , requests for information are completed by SPA deadlines. Review expenditures in conjunction with award documents to ensure compliance with federal regulations, agency guidelines, and University policies.

     

    Supervise and provide guidance and expertise to the Department of Oncology staff regarding the administration of grants and contracts. s Providing training to staff of the Department and present at monthly Research Administrator meetings. Oversee grant account reconciliations and meet with faculty members.

     

    Oversee manage and reconcile CCSG (Cancer Center Support Grant) which includes 30 sub accounts. Manage purchased services between KCI and WSU related to the CCSG grant.

     

    Assist upper management with streamlining and improving processes, providing input for automating processes, creating ad hoc reports and actively implementing changes as needed . Oversee and manage department’s effort changes.

     

    Oversee and manage external pilot project funding from Karmanos Cancer Institute and invoicing process between SPA and KCI.

     

    Perform other related duties as assigned.

    Unique duties:

    Facilitate the submission of financial reports to sponsoring agencies who provide research and other sponsored funding to the University. Provide direction to staff for proper preparation of financial reports and distribute workload appropriately. Ensure expenditures and other award procedures compliance with University and sponsor policies, particularly the federal Uniform Guidance to protect the University.

    Qualifications:

    Education: Bachelor's degree

    + Bachelor ’s degree from an accredited college or University in Accounting, Finance, related discipline or equivalent work experience.

     

    Experience: Expert (established subject matter expert, 7+ years experience)

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    + Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

    + Planning/Organization skills – prioritize and plans the completion of the reporting tasks; adapt to frequent changes to policies; Adjust schedule to deal with unexpected events.

    + Analytical Skills – analyze accounting and financial data; detect accounting errors; determine compliance with School, University and sponsor policies.

    + Team Building – develop teamwork with staff; train the staff members to properly perform their tasks; encourage staff to perform their best.

    + Communication Skills – communicate well with School of Medicine, SPA staff and the University community; provide strong customer service, especially regarding changes to policies. Ability to write and orally correspond with others.

    + Computer Skills – proficient in Microsoft Office applications; skilled and experience in the Banner system; ability to data enter various computer systems which require submission of financial reports and data.

    + Problem-Solving Skills – ability to make quick decisions to timely resolve urgent reporting matters; identify and solve complex accounting problems; develop solutions to various changes to grant and contract administration.
