Assistant Professor - Clinical, Assistant Program Director, Department of Nurse Anesthesia

Essential functions (job duties):
Assistant Program Director
The Assistant Program Director assists the Program Director in the daily operations of the Program and assists in assuring compliance with the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program’s Standards and Guidelines. The doctorally-prepared Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) who is experientially qualified to assist the Program Director and if required, assume leadership responsibility for the program. The Assistant Program Director serves as designee for the Program Director.
Program Leadership and Management Responsibilities
1. Supports and facilitates the goals of the University and the program.
2. Supports the Program Director in program review, curriculum development, implementation of innovations, systematic evaluation including preparation of required administrative reports, program planning, and general oversight.
3. Provides guidance and leadership to the program and department.
4. Collaborates with the Program Director to develop and maintain program policies and assures compliance with all educational and accreditation policies.
5. Collaborates with the Program Director to ensure compliance of accreditation standards and participates in the services and or activities required for accreditation review.
6. Collaborates with the Program Director for the development and evaluation of DNAP program curriculum, including facilitation and approval for course, curricula and program and curricular changes.
7. Collaborates with Program Director and faculty to develop schema for course offerings and schedules each semester in compliance with university expectations and policies.
8. Facilitates assessment of student academic achievement and other areas of instructional effectiveness.
9. Establishes regular meetings with students to review student progress and need for additional support.
10. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed and demonstrates knowledge of environmental issues that influence the program and nurse anesthesia practice by engaging in professional development.
11. Conducts annual clinical site visits
12. Actively engage in quality teaching including simulation, research, scholarship and service.
13. Manages all aspects of the Program as directed by the Director
14. Engage in scholarly activity to enhance knowledge in nurse anesthesia.
University and Community Engagement
1. Participate on University committees, serving as liaison between the program, the University and clinical sites.
2. Serves on program, department, college, university, and professional committees.
Advising/Mentoring
1. Advise graduate students, works with the team of faculty and program director to review daily clinical evaluations and identify students in need of remediation.
2. Participates in formative and summative student evaluations.
3. Serve as research and doctoral project mentor to ensure all necessary timelines are met including disseminations of research-based knowledge through publications and presentations.
4. Assists in faculty development and orientation of new faculty, as needed.
Student Recruitment and Enrollment
1. Collaborates with the Program Director to oversee recruitment.
2. Collaborates with the Program Director in reviewing student applications and communicating with applicants regarding the application process.
3. Conducts interviews with applicants as part of the admissions committee to select qualified applicants to the program.
Metrics and Outcomes
1. Works closely with the Program Director and faculty to ensure the Program’s outcomes are meet through continuous improvement.
2. Assists Program Director in leading curriculum development, implementation and evaluation; effectively communicates programmatic issues to the Program Administration; participates in curriculum review and ongoing development.
3. Analyzes program assessment data for programmatic and departmental improvement.
4. Reviews course evaluations and determines areas for improvement/discussion at department meeting.

Qualifications:
Qualifications
1. Initial certification and recertification as a CRNA by the NBCRNA.
2. Terminal degree (DNP, DNAP, or PhD, or equivalent) from an institution of higher education that is accredited by an agency recognized by the US Secretary of Education at the time the degree was conferred.
3. Prior classroom teaching experience in the specialty of nurse anesthesia.
4. Competence in educational principles and techniques used in higher education classrooms, laboratory and clinical settings; knowledge of the profession including practice issues, procedures, and regulations.
5. Strong verbal, writing, interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.
6. Proficiency in interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written and electronic) necessary to interact effectively with students, faculty, professional staff, administration, clinical affiliates, and the community.
7. Knowledge of the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs policies and procedures.
8. Skill in goal setting; analytical and organizational skills to plan, implement, and evaluate program activities.
