    Description of Job

    Job Summary:

    T his role is a part of the State Classified Series Electronics Specialist III and provides technical expertise in Life Safety Services within the Facilities Operations and Services Division. This role provides technology solutions and support for campus life safety and security systems. This position supports fire alarm systems, intrusion and panic alarm systems. The position is responsible for annual inspections of fire alarm systems in accordance with NFPA 72 regulations and compliance requirements by the City and County of Denver. Collaborating and maintaining a working relationship with other service departments essential, as is coordination with the three institutions housed on campus: the Community College of Denver, Metropolitan State University, and the University of Colorado Denver.

    Essential Functions:

    Life Safety Technical Consultant:

    + Provide technical expertise for the life safety services and systems within the Operations & Services Department of the Facilities Services Division.

    + Provides operations and maintenance services that are cost effective through performing and/or subcontracts all related duties associated with these systems; including system programming, testing, maintenance and repairs.

    + Ensures campus life safety equipment is operational to support the academic mission of the campus.

    + Coordinate/oversee annual testing and inspection of the Fire Alarm systems on campus.

    Lead Work Order Management:

    + Leads and directs the work of other Life Safety Specialists and supporting staff as needed including daily and weekly assignments and associated time tracking.

    + Develops maintenance plans and procedures to be implemented in the work order control system and/or campus wide policies and procedures.

    + Reviews work order system reports to ensure the daily time records, corrective work orders and preventative maintenance work orders are correct and completed in a timely manner.

    + Facilitate training for other personnel on troubleshooting fire alarm problems and operating new fire alarm systems.

    Automated Life Safety System Maintenance:

    + Operates, monitors and maintains the computer workstation control system related to campus life safety systems located in Facilities Services and monitored by the Auraria Campus Police Department.

    + Monitors fire alarm system daily for problems and issues. Initiate and complete corrective action as required and maintain records and operations.

    + Performs or subcontracts all related duties associated with this system, including system installations, updates, programming, testing and repairs.

    + Tests and updates workstation alarm point information to ensure end user emergency contact and alarm point location is accurate in order to facilitate appropriate response.

    + Assists in installation and/or integration of all new fire alarm systems.

     

    Support other departments, shops, and campus users with other duties as assigned including but not limited to snow removal, project support, events support, and/or emergency response.

     

    Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Experience Only:

    + Three (3) years of relevant experience in life safety equipment inspection and/or repair for commercial and/or institutional facilities (may include: fire alarms, security alarm, sprinkler systems, and/or fire extinguisher)

    OR

    Education and Experience:

    + A combination of related education (may include: engineering; Life Safety; Fire; EMT; Low Voltage; and/or a related) and/or relevant experience (may include; fire alarms, security alarm, sprinkler systems, and/or fire extinguisher) in an occupation related to the work assigned equal to three (3) years.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Fire extinguisher certification and/or ability to pass the Denver Fire Department extinguisher certification within 6-12 months of employment

    + Experience leading and directing work of teams

    + Professional experience working under NFPA code

    Conditions of Employment:

    + Must hold or be willing and able to pass the Denver Fire Department extinguisher certification within 6-12 months of employment.

    + Must maintain a valid and unencumbered Colorado driver license.

    + Please note that if offered employment, candidates will be required to furnish a copy of themotor vehicle report (MVR) as part of the background check process.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    + Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints/construction diagrams.

    + Ability to write and produce reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

    + Ability self-direct own work and capable of effectively coordinating the work of others, e.g., contractors.

    + Ability to work in a team-oriented environment that requires individual thought and initiative.

    + Ability to maintain professional standards and conduct during stressful and oftentimes emotional situations.

    + Ability to deliver and follow detailed instructions.

    + Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
