    ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant is currently hiring a Full-Time Professional Staff Nurse to support the 4 South – Surgical Progressive Care Unit at the McCandless location.

    About the unit:

    + 4 South is a surgical progressive care unit. This unit has 24 private beds. The patient population consists of those individuals requiring a higher level of care than can be provided on the medical-surgical floors but do not require an ICU level of care.

    + Typical patients seen on this unit are: post vascular surgery, post open heart surgery, post heart cath, post defibrillator/pacemaker insertion, CHF, anyone with a cardiac arrhythmia requiring medicine to control heart rate, stroke, high oxygen requirements and those on IV insulin drips.

    The Professional Staff Nurse is a valued step in the UPMC nursing career ladder, with opportunities for continued growth and advancement. Title and salary will be determined based upon education and nursing experience.

    Responsibilities:

    + Communicate effectively with the health care team and demonstrate cultural awareness.

    + Promote workplace safety and accountability for professional development.

    + Contribute to clinical care improvements and support change initiatives.

    + Foster healthy relationships and participate in unit-level governance.

    + Engage in team collaboration and developmental programs for new hires.

    + Seek feedback and continuous learning opportunities to enhance practice.

    + Provide patient and family education and support.

    + Apply nursing knowledge within a Relationship-Based Care framework.

    + Demonstrate critical thinking, initiative, and ethical decision-making in patient care.

    + Gradually increase patient load and complexity while maintaining high-quality care.

    + Utilize evidence-based practice and identify clinical improvement opportunities.

    + Ability to establish and maintain positive, caring relationships with executives, managers, physicians, non-physician providers, ancillary and support staff, other departments, and patients/families.

    + Ability to work productively and effectively within a complex environment, handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment.

    + Critical thinking, analytical and problem solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care.

    + Good clinical judgment.

    + Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and to lead others in application of the nursing process.

    + Mobility and visual manual dexterity. Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + Current Pennsylvania licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse

    + CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

    + Must complete licensure examination within FOUR MONTHS of hire or within one year of graduation, whichever comes first. Though temporary permits are valid for one year from the date of graduation, not one year from issue of permit (or until the results of the examination are known at which time it becomes null and void), UPMC requires that GNs take the licensure examination within 4 months of their start date or they will be terminated or demoted from the GN position, at the discretion of the BU.

    + Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    + Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    + NIH Stroke Scale (NIH)

    + Registered Nurse (RN)

    + Registered Nurse (RN) OR

    + Temporary Practice Permit (TPP)

    + Act 34
