    Join Our Team as a Full-Time Expert Medical Assistant at UPMC Franklin Community Medicine!

UPMC Franklin Community Medicine in Franklin, PA, is seeking a dedicated Full-Time Expert Medical Assistant to join our dynamic team. This is a unique opportunity to work in a supportive, patient-focused environment with a consistent Monday through Friday schedule—no weekends or holidays required—with varied shifts between 7:45 AM and 7:00 PM.

     

    We’re looking for candidates who have successfully completed a Medical Assistant program and/or have direct patient care experience, including taking vital signs.     _Title and starting pay rate of this position may vary based on years of experience and manager discretion._

    Responsibilities:

    + Check schedules, organize patient flow, and accompany patients to exam or procedure rooms while assisting with mobility, dressing, specimen collection, and exam preparation.

    + Collect patient information and history, take vital signs, perform screenings per provider guidelines, and relay instructions to patients and families.

    + Answer phone calls and provide accurate information, including patient education as directed by providers.

    + Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, level-one labs, and other clinic procedures per policy, and assist physicians with examinations and treatments.

    + Document all relevant patient information accurately in the electronic medical record.

    + Administer injectable medications and vaccines under the direction of a physician, following proper protocols.

    + Ensure compliance with OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health, HIPAA, and all UPMC policies and procedures, maintaining strict confidentiality at all times.

    + Prepare exam rooms, set up and clean instruments and equipment between patients, follow infection control procedures, and complete scheduled maintenance with appropriate recordkeeping.

    + Manage medical supply inventory and restock exam and procedure rooms to ensure readiness.

    + Collaborate with the care team to meet population health goals by improving access to care, reducing emergency visits, and decreasing readmissions.

    + Conduct telephonic outreach to recently discharged patients to schedule follow-ups, review treatment plans, and provide education and support.

    + Make referrals to extended care team members and notify providers of post-discharge needs or discrepancies in care plans.

    + Participate in population health outreach initiatives to assist with closing care gaps and improving outcomes.

    + Provide health education and wellness guidance, support patient self-management, and promote health literacy using motivational interviewing techniques.

    + Demonstrate proficiency in all practice-specific tasks and maintain responsibility for clinical excellence.

    + Guide workflow and assign tasks to clinical staff to ensure efficient daily operations.

    + Assist management with supervisory activities, including setting departmental goals, implementing procedures, and mentoring and training staff.

    + Serve as the department super user for Epic Care and support colleagues in navigating the system.

    + Perform all other duties as assigned to support the success of the practice and patient care.

    Required:

    + High school diploma or equivalent is required AND one of the following:

    + Successful completion of Medical Assistant program, or equivalent hospital program, OR

    + Successful completion and maintenance of certification examination and 1 year of patient care experience, OR

    + Two years of direct patient care experience.

    + Successfully complete the UPMC preceptor training and serve as a preceptor and mentor to newly hired team members.

    + Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in all practice category specific tasks.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + In lieu of the MAS, relevant bachelor's degree accepted.

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
