UPMC St. Margaret is seeking a full-time Clinical Pharmacist to join our Emergency Department team!
In this dynamic role, you will be responsible for managing daily pharmacy operations and providing direct clinical support within the Emergency Department. As a faculty member of the Pharmacy Residency Program, you will also precept pharmacy residents and contribute to drug utilization evaluations (DUEs) and special projects. This position follows an evening shift schedule, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend or holiday coverage as needed. Schedule flexibility may be required based on departmental needs. A PGY2 residency in Emergency Medicine or Critical Care is preferred, though candidates with equivalent clinical experience will also be considered.
The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist is a valued step in UPMC pharmacy Career Ladder. The final candidate will be placed in the appropriate title and pay rate depending on education and experience.
Responsibilities:
+ Provide direct patient care and integrated pharmacy services in specialized clinical areas.
+ Assess patient needs and tailor drug therapy based on age, condition, and response.
+ Prevent, detect, and resolve medication-related issues and adverse events.
+ Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize patient-centered care and identify high-risk patients.
+ Deliver medication reconciliation, discharge counseling, and emergency response.
+ Oversee medication-use systems, including stewardship, surveillance, and compliance programs.
+ Evaluate pharmacy programs for quality, operational, and financial performance.
+ Develop and enforce policies for drug procurement, distribution, and control.
+ Support pharmacy operations, including specialty medication handling and technician oversight.
+ Lead educational initiatives for students, residents, and staff, including PGY2 learners.
+ Drive quality improvement, clinical research, and system enhancements to improve safety and outcomes.
+ Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy
+ B.S. degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree; PharmD preferred.
+ Required: Current licensure as a Pharmacist in practicing state
+ Completion of ASHP accredited PGY-2 Pharmacy Residency OR PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency plus 3 years clinical pharmacy experience in a specialized area OR 6 years clinical pharmacy experience in a specialized area.
+ Specialized knowledge and expertise in advanced pharmacy practice and service, comprehensive medication management, and evidence-based medicine in specialized area appropriate for clinical assignments
