Custom Job Purpose:
The purpose of this job is to perform the primary coordination of Specific Training Empowering Exceptional Learners (STEEL) program at the district technical colleges. Collaborates with directors, teachers, support personnel, district staff, and parents to ensure appropriate implementation of the Florida Postsecondary Comprehensive Transition (FPCTP) program to provide ongoing technical assistance to schools and teachers. Ability to prepare and manage a budget and grant-related data deliverables.
Essential Functions of this Job
• Recruit students from HS ESE/Transition programs, Vocational Rehab, outside of county
• Participate in FIN, Chambers of Commerce, Special Olympics
• Meet individually with students and school counselors to review IEPs and determine program eligibility and student skill levels
• Participate in program admissions committee
• Schedule and conduct regular meetings with program participants
• Maintain high visibility in classrooms to ensure student needs are being met and they are participating in the program of study
• Assist with selection of supplementary curriculum, materials, and equipment necessary to support STEEL students in traditional classroom environments
• Develop relationships with local business partners to secure internship and employment opportunities for program participants
• Conduct meetings with program participants and stakeholders at the completion of an OCP or as deemed necessary to discuss Satisfactory Academic Progress
• Write and maintain the continuing program grant at three-year intervals
• Facilitate STEEL program presentations to the technical college/program advisory councils
• Collect data on program indicators as required for the FPCTP annual report and FCSUA grant reporting
• Disaggregate data related to program completion and job placement rates
• Facilitate a STEEL program advisory committee
• Collaborate with local businesses to identify employment opportunities
• Collaborate with instructors to prepare students to sit for industry certification exams
• Seek funds from community-based agencies (e.g. CareerSource, Vocational Rehab, etc.) to sustain the program
• Facilitate professional development for technical college staff members on working with students with intellectual disabilities
• Coordinate with Vocational Rehabilitation services

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of exceptional education rules and regulations as defined by local, State and federal mandates. Bilingual/biliterate preferred.
Education, Experience and/or Certification/License Requirements
A master's degree from an accredited educational institution is preferred. Certification in Exceptional Student Education or the designated service area and work experience in the area of Exceptional Student Education is required.
Work Context:
Requires some sitting and standing, walking and moving about to coordinate work. Requires the use of alternative communication systems, such as electronic mail, telephones and computers. Requires coordination of work tasks to establish priorities, set goals and meet deadlines. Requires face-to-face discussions and contact with individuals and/or teams. Requires work with both internal and external contacts, and with the public.
Physical Environment:
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
