Work Hours: Monday – Friday from 8:15am-3:15pm (additional hours as needed)

About the Position:
The Township of Plainsboro is seeking a dynamic and experienced Special Education Teacher who would be
responsible for working with special needs children through the provision of additional guidance and
support. The Special Education Teacher will follow the direction of and work cooperatively with the Camp
Director and other Specialty Teachers to facilitate the best possible programming.
The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for implementing individualized activity plans for
identified campers including, but not limited to:
• Behavior modification plans
• Socialization plans
• Managing camper anxiety issues
• Adapting activities for campers as deemed necessary
The Special Education Teacher is responsible for communicating with the parents/guardians of campers on
the child’s experience and how they are acclimating to the camp experience.
The position includes minimal pre-season preparatory work (mandatory staff training and camp set-up), as
well as during the summer camp season (fixed schedule). The Special Education Teacher reports to the Camp
Director.
Specialty teachers must be available for the entire eight-week camp season. including mandatory staff
training(s) and camp set-up. (a flexible schedule will be considered).
Camp participant population for this position consists of children in grades 1-6.
Key Responsibilities:
• Communication & Collaboration:
o Communicate effectively with camp participants, parents/guardians, staff, volunteers, and
other stakeholders.
o Collaborate with fellow specialty teachers, camp program leadership address parent/guardian
concerns and questions promptly and professionally.
• Risk Management & Safety:
o Maintain implemented safety plan, including emergency procedures and first aid protocols
o Ensure the well-being and safety of all campers at all times.
Qualifications:
• B.A. or B.S. degree
• Special Education Certification
• Two years of teaching experience working as a special education teacher.
• One-year teaching/camp experience with grade school-age population.
• Experience writing IEPs for children with special needs.
• One-year experience in camp administration (or comparable).
• Ability to instruct and supervise staff.
• Ability to accept guidance and supervision; ability to work collaboratively with other members of
camp staff to promote a positive work environment.
• Enthusiasm, patience, self-control; ability to adapt to the camp setting.
• Prior camp experience.
• CPR / First Aid Certification
Desired Skills:
• Experience with outdoor education and environmental programs.
• Knowledge of child development and best practices in youth work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Passion for working with children and creating positive learning experiences.
