Position is located in: DFAS Director's Office, General Counsel, Accounting/Commercial Law, Indianapolis, IN. Responsibilities Serves as the Assistant Deputy General Counsel (ADGC) in the ACL Directorate, DFAS OGC, supporting the Deputy General Counsel (DGC), Accounting and Commercial Law. Serves as a first-line supervisor for the Accounting and Commercial Law Directorate, supervising multiple attorneys and a paralegal. Assigns and reviews work, conducts performance appraisals for subordinates, and assists the DGC. Develops guidelines and a general framework for the formulation of directorate policies, plans, and programs to ensure the effective conduct of missions and functions assigned to OGC relevant to the directorate’s area of the law. Reviews requests for legal opinions/services and routes requests to the appropriate attorney taking into consideration the subject of the request, originating office, due date of the response, and expertise and caseload of the assigned personnel. Provides subject matter expert level legal advice and guidance to Agency clients. Handles matters that are extremely complex, involve difficult or unique factual situations. Confers with and counsels staff elements and chiefs of operating directorates and their representatives; represents the Office of General Counsel at meetings. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-14 Qualifications: Assignments require the first professional law degree (LL.B. or J.D.) and active membership in the bar of the highest court of a State, U.S. commonwealth, U.S. territory, or the District of Columbia. In addition, the attorney shall have professional legal experience in excess of 3 years that is commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of the position. Telework availability is limited and will only be provided on a rare case-by-case basis during situations where Agency Leadership has determined that telework serves a compelling DoD need. We may use this announcement to make a temporary promotion. For some positions, the temporary promotion may be made permanent without further competition. A one year trial period may be required. A one year supervisory or managerial probationary period may be required. We may use this announcement to fill additional vacancies within 120 days of the closing date. This position is Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. Travel requirement is Seldom (1-24%). This position is not covered by a bargaining unit.
