Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
Works closely with the Burn Director to coordinate and facilitate all aspects of the bum program. In this capacity, manages operational and personnel issues, oversees the bum registry and other data resources, assists in the coordination of bum care across the continuum, establishes and oversees processes to monitor clinical outcomes and performance
improvement activities. Interacts with representatives from other medical
center departments as well as outside agencies, regional bum/trauma
faculty, staff and regulatory agencies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Coordinates burn care management across the continuum of burn care, including planning and implementation of clinical
+ protocol/practice management guidelines, monitoring of in-hospital and ambulatory patients, and serving as a resource
+ for clinical practice
+ Collaborates with the operational and personnel aspects of the Burn Program. Represents Burn Program on various Hospital, community and national committees to enhance and foster optimal burn care management
+ Is involved in research projects, analysis and distribution findings. Facilitates protocol design for accurate data collection, feedback and analysis
+ Establishes and implements plan to obtain ABA Burn Verification; ensure ongoing compliance with designated criteria
+ Develops and implements innovative strategies, to promote and coordinate Burn care in the region
+ Shares knowledge and expertise with all members of the health care team
+ Identifies situations that require change, develops and implements a plan, and communicates to the multidisciplinary team
+ Facilitates Bi-Monthly Program meetings to discuss current and future directives for the burn program
+ Regularly interacts with industry to secure cutting-edge products and technology
+ Develops and implements innovative strategies, to promote and coordinate Burn care in the region
+ Shares knowledge and expertise with all members of the health care team
+ Identifies situations that require change, develops and implements a plan, and communicates to the multidisciplinary team
+ Facilitates Bi-Monthly Program meetings to discuss current and future directives for the burn program
+ Regularly interacts with industry to secure cutting-edge products and technology
+ Enhance the level of burn education of physicians, nurses, and residents at the Strong Memorial Hospital and within our region.
+ Provide education to first responders and outside facilities; community hospitals and urgent care center to coordinate responses to burn injuries
+ Coordinate opportunities for inter facility and regional professional staff development, including quarterly certification courses in Advanced Burn Life Support and Nursing Orientation Burn Class
+ Participates in educational seminars and conferences at the local and national level
+ Other clinical duties include Instructor of hands-on wound care
+ Quality Assurance Liaison for Department of Surgery
+ Participates in case review, standardizes practice guidelines, audits and case reviews, identifying trends and sentinel events and helping to outline remedial actions as needed and directs changes in practice in collaboration with Nursing and Physician Leadership
+ Monitors clinical outcomes and system issues related to quality-of-care delivery, developing quality indicators
+ Tracks and trends QA audit filters on the Burn registry
+ Reviews all deaths and complication on the Burn Service at monthly M&M and reports results to department QA liaison
+ Oversight of data collection for various sources as well as data extraction and quality assurance of data integrity
+ Creates monthly, quarterly, and annual reports of outcomes data
+ Provide education to our community and support organizations that work with our facility to enhance the image of the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital.
+ Coordinate outreach opportunities within our community for injury prevention and awareness of resources at the Kessler Burn Center
+ Actively participates in the development of burn care systems at the community, state or national levels for Disaster Preparedness initiatives
+ Organizes a yearly fundraiser for the burn program and assists with a community association’s fundraiser that supports the Kessler Burn Center
+ Organize a yearly Christmas Party for our pediatric burn patients
+ Collaborates with Finger Lakes Burn Association supporting the annual burn camp
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ Bachelor's degree and 3 years relevant experience
+ 3 years relevant experience
+ or equivalent combination of education and experience
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
+ Nurse with active license in New York State
+ ABLS certification
