Responsibilities:
GENERAL PURPOSE
The SURGE (Surgical Research and Genitourinary Engineering) Laboratory is a biomedical engineering lab. It focuses on creating surgical phantoms for educational purposes and development of biologic systems to better understand urologic diseases. The lab uses hydrogels and polymer material science to accomplish these goals.
A technician in the lab will be expected to provide routine technical support for research activities and/or laboratory support including but not limited to:
Assisting with the design and execution of experiments
Maintenance, operation and calibration of lab equipment including 3D printers, CAD software, and lab equipment necessary for experiments
Responsible for general data collection and analysis
Support and assist other engineers and technical staff as needed
-Writing protocols, abstracts and manuscripts for aforementioned experiments
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Performs technical procedures and experiments according to specific instructions and protocols when initiating and conducting research experiments.
+ Manages data and databases. Maintains records, reports, and inventory. Administer and collect surveys. Will assist with the development of research protocols, including literature reviews. Records and tabulates experimental data.
+ Preparing and synthesizing hydrogel solutions for biomedical applications. Testing of new hydrogel formulations.
+ Assists with purchasing routine lab supplies. Maintains general equipment. May design modifications and fabricate mechanical or electronic equipment.
+ May provide general support and supervision of rotating student researchers. Works closely with lab personnel to understand the principles of compliance, confidentiality, and other ethical obligations involved in conducting research.
+ May assist faculty and students in the use of equipment.
+ Keeps current with industry standards, best practices, and trends in health sciences. Attends/participates in weekly lab meetings and journal clubs.
Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ High School diploma or GED and 1 year experience performing basic sampling, monitoring or research activities, compiling and collecting data and preparing reports required
+ Associate's degree in health science, Biology, Chemistry or other science related field of study preferred
+ Or equivalent combination of education and experience
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Experience with 3D printers and CAD software.
+ Ability to Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etcetera).
+ Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and scientific methods required.
