Provides direct patient care for individuals with acute or chronic renal failure by performing essential hemodialysis procedures and techniques, as well as daily patient monitoring and support, under the supervision of a registered nurse.

Responsibilities
+ Provides dialysis treatments to patients in the multi-treatment room and in acute care patient rooms under the direction and supervision of a registered nurse.
+ Sets up and operates hemodialysis machine including inspecting equipment settings, pressures, flow etc.
+ May initiate dialysis treatments using sterile or aseptic technique per treatment protocol; monitors and discontinues dialysis or dialysis-related treatments to patients with acute or chronic renal failure. Non-Certified Techs may perform these functions in the multi-treatment room only under the direction of a registered nurse.
+ Documents dialysis treatment and care provided in patient’s medical record.
+ Takes patient’s vital signs, including pre and post dialysis weight and monitors for adverse reactions.
+ Assists patients with ADLs as appropriate.
+ Mixes and primes dialysate, according to formula.
+ Reports all observed patient concerns and changes in condition to licensed staff members and providers.
+ Explains dialysis procedure and operation of hemodialysis machine to patient before treatment.
+ Participates in unit in services, staff meetings and may assist in patient and caregiver education related to dialysis.
+ May perform other duties as assigned.
+ On-call shifts may be required.

+ Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
+ Demonstrated human relations skills and effective communication skills.
+ Ability to practice workplace safety and follow personal protective equipment requirements based on patient’s diagnosis.
Qualifications
Qualifications** **Licenses Required
+ Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
+ Current certification as a Nursing Assistant with the State of Utah.
+ Current Certified Clinical Hemodialysis Technician with Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC)

Qualifications (Preferred)
Preferred
+ One year of direct patient care with a minimum of six months dialysis experience is preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
_Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation._
+ This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting that may exert up to 50 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving patients or objects, such as medical equipment, while providing patient care. Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases and may be required to function around prisoners or behavioral health patients.
