    Responsible for leading coding efforts and continuously assesses and makes improvements to facilitate a coding team which performs at or above industry benchmarks. Monitors, tracks, and reports coder productivity. Monitors coding workload and schedules appropriate resources to meet the needs of the organization. The Coding Team Leader serves as the main resource to coding for daily coding questions as well as documentation/query questions. This individual also provides individualized education as well as generalized education to the coding team. In collaboration with the HIM Manager, plans, coordinates and ensures external audits are performed and completed based upon an annual audit plan. Performs new staff orientation, as well as reviews and validation of annual education/competencies. Works collaboratively with external departments, such as Patient Billing, CDI, and individual practices to achieve goals of the Department and Organization. Assures coding and abstracting functions are performed in an, accurate, timely manner and adhere to official coding guidelines and state/federal rules and regulations. Works with coding staff and audit partners to identify potential areas of documentation improvement to escalate to the Manager of HIM or the Manager of CDI.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    CCS Coding Certification (with AHIMA ICD-10-CM/PCS certification preferred) and/or other nationally recognized coding certifications such as CIC, CPC, or CPMA may be considered.

     

    Minimum of five years of relevant coding experience, at least three of which must be inpatient coding experience.

     

    Experience with and knowledge of instructional notations and conventions of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS coding systems; the ability to follow the detailed guidelines related to their use in assigning single and sequencing multiple, diagnosis and procedure codes for appropriate reimbursement and data collection.

     

    Previous experience leading or managing day to day operations of a function or group.

     

    Strong problem-solving skills, ability to manage project tasks and timelines, and analytical ability.
