Position Description:
Employees in this classification serve under the supervision of an Othopaedic Surgeon and/or Head Nurse, as a member of the Orthopaedic team in the operating room and/or clinic or hospital. The chief function is to aide the Orthopaedic surgeon in the training of resident physicians in casting, splinting, and traction techniques. May be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the orthopedic bracing and supply program throughout the practice according to regulations, policies and procedures.

Major/Essential Functions:
+ Employee will perform Casting, splinting, and traction skills in the operating room, hospital units and clinic.
+ Assist in performing patient care related tasks and responsibilities (day to day) as needed in the Department's outpatient clinic environment and hospital environment.
+ Employee will work as a clinical assistant team leader or team member working with a physician or other providers in patient care.
+ Performance of other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor, chair, Administrator, or Faculty member
+ Employee will participate in clinic year round Performance Improvements, Joint Commission readiness and Patient Satisfaction surveys
+ Employee will prepare patients for exams and treatments.
+ Assist physicians/nurses for various procedures and physical exams.
+ Receive and respond to patient medical telephone calls.
+ Fill out necessary referral forms for laboratory and other hospital services.
+ Remains current with all licensure, certifications and mandatory compliances and trainings required of this position.
+ Adhere to all policies, procedures and practices (Regents Rules, TTUS, HSECEP OPs, etc.).
+ Personally demonstrate, display and act in accordance with TTUHSC EP's Values (Service, Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Advancement, and Teamwork). Serve as a Value's leader while actively promoting and encouraging staff across the institution.

Preferred Qualifications:
+ Knowledge in the care and maintenance of orthopaedic surgical instruments and advanced knowledge of casting, splinting and traction techniques.
+ Ability to work closely with patients, doctors, resident physicians, nursing staff and families of patients.
+ Ability to understand and carry out prescribed clinical standards.
+ Bilingual in English and Spanish
+ At least three years of experience as an orthopedic assistant under the direct supervisionof a physician.
