Course Description
The SEAS Office of Community Impact and Engagement is seeking one Graduate Student Staff Assistant (GSSA) to support the continued development of theCollective Impact Committee (CIC) (https://seas.umich.edu/about/collective-impact-committee) and its programming. The GSSA will co-lead the launch of a new series of Co-Learning Spaces?student-led events that promote inclusive dialogue, deepen engagement with course content, and cultivate leadership and facilitation skills. The role centers on community-building, skills development, and supporting SEASs commitment to inclusive, values-based programming.
+ Appointment Period: Fall 2025-Winter 2026 (September 2025 through April 2026)This position is guaranteed for one term, with renewal for Winter 2026 contingent upon the student maintaining good academic standing and demonstrating strong performance in the role, as evaluated by the supervising staff.
+ Estimated FTE: 50% (20 hours per week)
+ Compensation: stipend (at the GEO negotiated GSSA monthly rate)
This appointment provides tuition, required fees, GradCare health insurance and dental insurance (Option 1).
Responsibilities*
+ Co-lead the design, coordination, and facilitation of Collaborative Co-Learning Spaces and related student-led events in collaboration with CIC staff, faculty, and student facilitators.
+ Mentor and support a team of student facilitators, including onboarding, training, and skill-building in inclusive dialogue and peer leadership.
+ Develop tools and resources to support reflective learning, peer facilitation, and program delivery.
+ Lead program evaluation efforts using surveys, interviews, and feedback tools; synthesize findings into actionable recommendations.
+ Coordinate program logistics and communications, including scheduling, materials preparation, outreach, and event support.
+ Draft and edit a range of written materials such as workshop content, promotional communications, and program reports.
+ Represent student perspectives in CIC planning meetings and contribute to strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts.
+ Participate in team reflection, professional development, and shared leadership practices that advance SEAS goals.
Required Qualifications*
+ Must be a currently enrolled graduate student at the University of Michigan.
+ Demonstrated interest in fostering inclusive learning environments and/or facilitating dialogue across differences.
+ Experience in event or workshop planning, peer education, or student leadership.
+ Familiarity withSEAS values (https://seas.umich.edu/about/seas-values) and interdisciplinary approaches to environmental learning.
+ Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and follow through on deadlines.
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills.
+ Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Ability to work independently or collaboratively, depending on the task.
+ Proficiency with productivity tools such as Google suite, Calendar and email
Desired Qualifications*
In addition to the required qualifications listed above, successful candidates may also have:
+ Second year standing or greater as a SEAS graduate student
+ Experience working across roles or disciplines (e.g., with staff, faculty, and students).
+ Previous training in adaptable conflict resolution, intergroup dialogue, restorative practices, or related best practices.
+ Comfort with designing and leading workshops, trainings, or community events.
+ Ability to problem-solve and make decisions independently with limited supervision.
+ Strong organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure.
+ Understanding of challenges faced by underrepresented populations in higher education.
+ Experience with project management and developing resource or training materials.
+ Skills in graphic design, marketing and promotion (e.g., Canva, Mailchimp).
+ Basic data analysis skills and familiarity with tools such as Qualtrics, Excel/Sheet, Google Analytics, and Mailchimp Analytics.
Modes of Work
This role will include a hybrid work model with both in-person and virtual responsibilities. Some evening or weekend hours may be required for events.

Decision Making Process
Final candidates will be reviewed by a selection committee comprised of students and staff from the CIC. The committee will use a values-driven framework that emphasizes inclusive leadership potential, reflective practice, and alignment with SEASs values.
