Our Opportunity:

As a **Software Development Manager (SDM)** on the Pet Health development team based in **Boston, MA** , you will be a technical, hands-on leader, guiding a full-stack engineering team to deliver impactful solutions for Chewy's Pet Health initiatives. This is a high-profile position offering significant business exposure and the opportunity to influence the architecture, design, and features for a rapidly growing line of business. What You’ll Do:

+ Lead a team of ~8 full-stack software engineers responsible for building Chewy's new Pet Health initiatives using Java, Spring Boot, and React, deploying on AWS.

+ Foster, maintain, and improve upon a culture of operational excellence with consistent, repeatable processes and standards, emphasizing technical depth and hands-on leadership.

+ Establish strong working relationships across functional teams and collaborate with Engineering Management to drive best practices in software design, development, testing, and production deployment for full-stack solutions.

+ Partner with product owners to define and manage team priorities, balancing roadmap initiatives with iterative platform improvements.

+ Partner with our recruiting team to continue forming your team and mentor the growth of the existing team members

What You’ll Need:

+ 5+ years of experience in Software Development as a software engineer or architect, with strong experience in full-stack development including Java/Spring Boot and React, and a demonstrated history of implementing and managing multiple, significant software development projects with hands-on involvement.

+ 2+ years of experience in Engineering Management, with a proven ability to lead, mentor technical teams, and deliver projects under Agile/Scrum.

+ Experience delivering projects via CI/CD in an AWS cloud environment, including designing, building, and deploying scalable, highly available systems using microservices architecture and containerization technologies (Docker/Kubernetes).

+ Strong communication skills with both technical and business audiences

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering or a similar math/engineering subject area.

+ Position may require travel

Bonus:

+ Experience in e-commerce or Healthcare

+ Relevant experience with cloud & orchestration technologies (AWS Services like EC2, S3, Lambda, RDS; Terraform, HELM, Ansible, etc)
