Job Title: Engineering Intern - Materials Organization
Department: Engineering department - 6100
Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and self-motivated Engineering Intern to assist with organizing, cataloging, and streamlining our metal and materials inventory. This position will support the Engineering Department in creating a centralized and easy-to-use system for locating materials, improving workflow and visibility for engineering, purchasing, and shop floor teams.
Responsibilities
+ Inventory and catalog existing metal stock by type, grade, size, and form.
+ Confirm physical material in storage areas for easy access and identification.
+ Create and maintain a digital log of materials using Excel or other inventory tools.
+ Work with Engineering and Shop personnel to verify material specs and usage.
+ Develop/maintain a labeling or tagging system for stored materials.
+ Propose improvements for long-term materials tracking or storage efficiency.
+ Assist in creating or updating standard procedures related to material handling or organization.
Qualifications
+ Basic knowledge of common metals and material properties is preferred.
+ Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
+ Proficiency with Microsoft Excel; familiarity with spreadsheets, sorting, and basic formulas.
+ Able to work independently and communicate clearly with various teams.
+ Must be a U.S. citizen
Education and/or Experience
+ Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's program in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
+ Completion of at least one year of coursework is preferred.
+ Previous internship, co-op, or hands-on experience in a manufacturing or engineering environment is a plus, but not required.
+ Familiarity with metals, shop environments, or inventory systems is beneficial.
