Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 (commensurate with experience)
Binghamton University seeks a Digital Content Strategist. This position is the primary copywriter and content strategist on the University's web team within the Division of Communications and Marketing.
This role blends excellent planning, copywriting, storytelling, editing and web publishing skills with an understanding of user needs and University objectives to produce engaging, effective digital experiences.
Responsibilities:
+ Write, edit, and publish content - including marketing copy, people profiles (students, faculty, staff, alumni), academic program pages and more - for the University's public website and other online channels.
+ Design and manage architectures of websites within a content management system (CMS) providing counsel and expertise to a variety of collaborators.
+ Work with partners, project managers, designers and developers to develop and implement content strategies that contribute to an excellent user experience and meet project objectives.
+ Become an advanced editor in the University's CMS, capable of envisioning, building and updating all types of web pages using a combination of templates, modules, images, and other features.
+ Work with the Communication Managers to identify, produce, and surface strategic content across our websites and other online channels.
+ Regularly audit content and identify gaps or areas of opportunity for key sections of the site, then develop action plans to address them.
+ Ensure all content produced adheres to the University's online electronic information accessibility standards and best practices.
+ Develop SEO strategies based on strategic goals, research and best practices and apply them across our websites and other online channels.
+ Stay informed about the latest best practices, tools, and trends in web content strategy, SEO, AI applications, and other areas of digital content.
+ Help maintain website links and meta data.
+ Act as project coordinator and primary client contact for assigned projects.
+ Write and edit content for offline publications and projects as needed.
Job Requirements:
+ Bachelor's degree in English or related field
+ Three years of experience in writing for the web or other platforms, such as social media
+ Experience with search engine optimization (SEO), including a solid understanding of best practices and the ability to implement them in web content
+ Experience using a content management system (CMS) to produce and publish content.
+ Excellent writing, editing, proofreading, and grammar skills.
+ Ability to transform complex academic content into engaging content appropriate for various web audiences
+ Knowledge of developing for accessibility and experience with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0
+ Proficiency with the Adobe Creative Suite
+ Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Preferred:
+ Experience applying user experience (UX) principles, including designing user-centered content, optimizing usability, and collaborating with designers to create intuitive and engaging interfaces
+ Experience analyzing both quantitative and qualitative website metrics
+ Knowledge of HTML and CSS, along with the skills to format content and troubleshoot issues
