Position Title: PUBLIC RESTAURANT PR & MARKETING MANAGER (Bay Area)

    Pay 15

    Salary: $95000-$105000 / year

    Our Passion is Food!

At Bon Appetit Management Company we are committed to two things, great food and outstanding service! At Bon Appetit you won't find our managers referring to a corporate recipe book or our chefs microwaving the lunch special. We do not have standardized recipes or central commissaries, instead, our chefs and managers are expected to stay abreast of current culinary trends and bring cutting edge food into their cafes. We are a restaurant company that operates in contract food service. That means you will have the freedom to be creative, take risks, and truly shine. We are committed to our staff growing, trying new things, and learning all that they can. Our rapid growth and breadth of accounts translates into exciting opportunities for our people!

    Job Summary

Bon Appétit Management Company (www.bamco.com) is seeking a creative and driven PR and Marketing Manager to lead brand activation and public relations efforts for our restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area, which include STEM Kitchen + Garden, Foundry & Lux, The Anecdote, Chico Marx, The Hangar and more. This strategic role bridges immersive marketing and impactful storytelling. You’ll work with talented operations teams to create compelling guest experiences, inspire participation, tell stories via social media, and pitch to regional and national food media.

If you're the go-to person in your friend group for restaurant recommendations, devour food media, and thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, this could be your dream job. We’re looking for someone with 3-5 years of experience in PR and/or marketing (ideally in restaurants or food), excellent writing and multitasking skills, and an eye for design and branding. A solid network of Bay Area and national food media contacts is a plus. Proven ability to work both independently and with multiple sets of clients and stakeholders is critical.

This full-time role reports to the brand activation department with a dotted line to communications. While primarily remote, this position is ideally based in the San Francisco Bay Area, requiring regular travel to Bay Area accounts and occasional in-office time in Redwood City. Additional non-local travel may be required.

    Responsibilities

Brand development and promotion + marketing

+ Work with regional leadership on brand identity development and communications strategy for all existing and new public restaurants/specialty venues

+ Develop high-level marketing/communications strategies to drive brand awareness

+ Help on-site management come up with promotions and special events

+ Assist with website creation and maintenance, including copywriting

+ Work closely with designers, clients, and regional leadership to iteratively develop brand identities

    + Oversee photo shoots

+ Support account team’s creation of quarterly marketing plans, measuring ROI, and tying revenue to marketing efforts

+ Conduct social media, communications, and marketing audits and trainings for account-level operations managers

Public relations and social media management

+ Stay in close, regular touch with on-site management about special events and changes to menus, publicizing as needed

+ Develop a PR strategy (including special events) designed to bring in specific kinds of new business and revenue streams

+ Monitor social media, assist with posting as needed, and train on-site staff to maintain and leverage social media as appropriate in collaboration with the corporate communications team.

+ Collaborate with the corporate communications team to support the specialty-venue field’s social media (page set-up, troubleshooting); contribute inspiration and guidance for weekly social media cheat sheet

+ Help to claim, set up, and monitor review sites (Yelp, Google, OpenTable, etc) and assist on-site team with sensitive responses as needed

+ Write chef bios, fact sheets, and press releases as needed with oversight from the Communications team

+ Personally accompany media on visits if needed

+ Pitch media on special menus, dinners, chef changes, etc.

+ When a new venue is opening, work with Bon Appétit executives and clients on preliminary planning. If a local contracted PR team is needed for launch, write brief defining local team’s engagement, including metrics of success; oversee local team’s PR strategy; and later, transition account from local support to HQ support.

+ Work with Bon Appétit communications director on multiple-location related stories and pitches

    Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

+ At least 3-5 years’ experience in food-related public relations and/or marketing (preferably with at least two years working directly in restaurant PR, launching new restaurants and driving business at existing ones) or comparable food-focused PR/marketing experience. Agency experience a plus.

+ Familiarity with and interest in sustainable food issues

+ Demonstrated writing and editing abilities

+ Good digital photography and editing skills

+ Proven competency in social media content development and strategy

+ Understanding of advanced features of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

+ Strong familiarity with collaborating via Microsoft 365, especially Sharepoint and Teams, and Box.

+ Experience with Hootsuite, Canva and Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Acrobat is desirable.

+ Experience writing clearly and concisely for multiple audiences with vastly different expectations.

+ Strong editing, grammar, and punctuation skills: able to apply AP Style (and memorize our exceptions to it), love debating things like em-dashes vs. parenthetical commas and colons, and can be relied on to check any questionable spellings.

+ Able to work both independently and collaboratively

+ Proactive planner that enjoys collaborating with peers and inspiring them to take action

This position reports to the Senior Regional Director of Activation and PR. This position receives regular direction and guidance from the VP of Image and Style and the VP of Communications.
