    The Nurse Education Specialist (NES) guides the orientation of new employees to the organization and their assigned groups or units. The NES welcomes new employees to the goals, philosophies, policies/procedures, role expectations, and other considerations to guide the new employee towards achieving role competency. The NES is a consultant, coach, mentor, and leader who collaborates with site nursing leadership and the System Professional Develompent Specialist Nursing (SPDSN) to support new employees during their orientation and ongoing learning. The NES supports and advocates for new employees throughout orientation by also supporting preceptors. The NES, in collaboration with the SPDSN, assesses and identifies ongoing education needs for all department staff.

     

    This role will be supporting Labor and Delivery, Antepartum and Postpartum.

     

    Organizes and supports the new employee’s onboarding and orientation to the department.

     

    • Provides site and/or department orientation and education (ex: HR department checklist, unit-specific equipment, site processes, etc...…)

    • Orients the new employee to the site/department culture and assimilates them to the department norms & procedures

    • Communicates with preceptors to ensure the new employee’s orientation progression

    • Identifies and works with unit leadership and the SPDSN for any issues affecting the new employee’s orientation progression.

    • Organizes and tracks orientation unit and organizational documentation.

    • Monitors orientation competency progression throughout the new employee’s orientation

    • Rounds with preceptors and new employees to provide coaching and mentoring for onboarding or orientation issues

    • Supports preceptor skill development

    • Ensures that new employees, supported by their preceptor(s), are advancing towards role competency.

     

    Supports the ongoing learning needs of new hires or of unit/department needs.

     

    • Collaborates with unit leadership and SPDSN to develop learning opportunities for identified needs

    • Partners with the SPDSN to assess the learning needs of individuals and groups

    • Collaborates with the SPDSN in providing education or just in time resources for the department staff

    • Serves as a technology liaison in understanding and promoting upgrades or changes across the

    organization as equipment or technology upgrades are implemented

    • Uses a variety of learner-center approaches and adult learning principles to meet employee educational

     

    needs

     

    Collaborates with department leadership to identify and develop unit preceptors who assist with the orientation of new employees.

     

    • Identifies needs or barriers preceptors are experiencing in supporting the new employees with their orientation progression

    • Identifies opportunities for preceptor role development

    • Connects the preceptor to system and unit resources to successfully onboard a new employee

    • Recognizes and mentors the preceptor in their role

    Required

    Education

    + Bachelor’s degree in Nursing

    Experience

    + Two years as a direct patient care RN

    + One year as a Preceptor on the unit(s)

    License/Certification/Registration

    + MN RN License

    + BLS

     

    Preferred

    Experience

    + More than three years as a direct patient care RN

    + Two or more years as a Preceptor on the unit(s)

    License/Certification/Registration

    + AANC Certification in clinical specialty

    Compensation Disclaimer

     

    The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization values pay equity and considers the internal equity of our team when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical. If your role is eligible for a sign-on bonus, the bonus program that is approved and in place at the time of offer, is what will be honored.
