    Description:

    The Senior Accounting Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and efficiency of financial operations within a healthcare laboratory environment. This position is responsible for overseeing complex accounting functions, including monthly closings, financial analysis and audit coordination. The analyst monitors financial subsystems, interprets variances, and provides actionable insights to leadership.

     

    Acting as a key liaison across departments, the analyst supports and mentors finance staff, ensures compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards, and serves as the primary contact for client financial inquiries. The role requires proficiency in accounting software and involves hands-on involvement in budgeting, vendor contract analysis, and continuous process improvement.

     

    This position demands strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to confidentiality, safety, and ethical conduct in alignment with organizational values and compliance programs.

    POSITION PURPOSE

    Performs complex financial and accounting duties requiring knowledge of hospital/Laboratory finance, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and accounting procedures, tax regulations, and information systems.  Collects, analyzes, and interprets financial and statistical data. Performs duties in a team-based environment. Works on special projects under the direction of the Director, Financial Accounting and Reporting/Regional Manager, Accounting and Reporting.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    + Monitors the monthly closing process to ensure accuracy of information transferred from subsystems. These subsystems include, but not limited to, payroll, accounts payable, material management, PP&E, intercompany balance and fixed assets.

    + Completes analyses comparing current monthly information to budget and prior periods. Reporting variances to management with recommendations.

    + Assists administration and managers with interpretation and explanation of financial policies, financial reports, and accounting practices. Recommends changes to reports, systems or controls as appropriate.

    + Manages external audit activities including providing required information within established periods and coordinating required annual physical inventory.

    + Oversees and supports accounting duties of staff/senior accountant and purchasing specialist. Oversees bank reconciliation, cash flow analysis and charge entry for complex testing.

    + Versed in all positions in finance department and provides orientation and training in financial aspects of laboratory operations to staff. Serves as backup for Billing Coordinator, Purchase Specialist and Staff/Senior Accountant.

    + Serves as Finance department’s lead contact for client resolution concerning AP, AR, invoicing and coding questions.

    + Understands and uses all computer based related software applications used to facilitate job duties. Has understanding of all systems affecting General Ledger and Financial Statements including Great Plains, FRX reporting module and Kaufman Hall.

    + Performs cost accounting analyst at a test, instrument and departmental level. Provides recommendations to decision makers.

    + Provide cost analysis of vendor contracts, quotes and agreements ensuring competitive pricing and terms.

    + Collaborate with department leadership establishing a supportive role in maintaining lab wide efficiencies especially related to cost, inventory and resource control.

    + Evaluates work processes on an ongoing basis and makes suggestions for their improvement. Is open to change and the adoption of improved processes.

    + Keeps abreast of current developments in healthcare and finance, including regulations and GAAP. Participates in the coordination of changes in financial operations due to regulatory decisions, technology, or changes in service delivery.

    + Interpersonal skills necessary to interact with a variety of internal contacts when collecting accounting data as well as outside auditors.

    + Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, the Trinity Health Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

    REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

    **Education:** Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance (or equivalent combinations of education and experience).

    **Experience** : Four years of progressively more responsible accounting work experience necessary in order to gain expertise needed to fully understand, analyze and maintain a variety of accounting reports and assist in the resolution of complex accounting problems.

    **Certification/Licensure** : None

    REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILIT** **IES

    + Knowledge of accounting principles, finance, statistical analyses and general business administration.

    + Demonstrates ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail in order to meet deadlines, while dealing with changing assignments, priorities, and distractions.

    + Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills necessary to establish systems and procedures, analyze the impact of various financial transactions and monitor governmental and regulatory agency requirements.

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    + Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.

    + Possesses technical and analytical skills required to prepare journal entries, account and system reconciliations, various routine and ad hoc reports, and routine system maintenance.

    + Demonstrates ability to evaluate and carry out a project from start to finish with limited direction, using creative solutions and problem-solving skills.

    + Demonstrates interpersonal skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel in the collection and analysis of financial data, and with third party auditors and regulatory agencies when conducting hospital audits.

    + Possesses experience with computers and proficiency in manipulation of data using various computer software applications including advanced Excel skills.

    + Demonstrates extensive knowledge of general ledger accounting, cost accounting, payroll, accounts payable, project tracking, fixed assets, and restricted funds.

    + Excellent customer service orientation skills necessary in order to deal effectively with various levels of hospital personnel, outside customers and community groups.
