Responsibilities
The Paramedic is responsible for delivering and administering high quality care and transportation to ill and injured persons. The Paramedic must demonstrate clinical competency and compassion in providing for the physical and emotional needs of patients. The Paramedic must have excellent judgment and be able to prioritize decisions and act quickly in the best interest of the patient, must be self-disciplined, able to develop patient rapport, interview hostile patients, maintain safe distance, and recognize and utilize communication unique to diverse multicultural groups and ages within those groups. Must be able to function independently at optimum level in a non-structured environment that is constantly changing. Must make patient care decisions based on predetermined protocols and appropriately calculate and administer critical time dependent medications. The Paramedic is required to initiate, operate and/or maintain advanced lifesaving equipment; intubate, ventilate, ventilator, vasopressin drips, blood products, arterial lines and chest tubes.
This work has exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field
conditions, warehouses, garages, etc.), extreme noises, odors, heights and/or dust.
This position has some exposure or risk to physical health and/or physical safety
(e.g., exposure to environmentally hazardous material, assault and battery, heavy equipment, communicable
diseases, etc.). This position may require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and may include completing and successfully passing medical evaluations or clearances.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent (GED). Completion of a paramedic technical program and one year of paramedic experience.
Experience as a Paramedic as well as an associate or baccalaureate degree are preferred. Must be proficient in English; must have the ability to read, write and speak English. Must have basic computer competency with ability to independently carry out patient care and document appropriately
Current Florida Paramedic licensure/certification. Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR certification and ACLS. PALS certifications or must be obtained within 6 months. FEMA IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 certification, and Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (E.V.O.C) required within 30 days. Must have and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Mayo Clinic policy.
