    Position Summary/Description:

    This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.

     

    Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Assistant Director identifies, qualifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards gifts of $100,000 and above from individual alums and friends of the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health. This position uses a comprehensive approach to relationship management, engaging with School leadership, faculty, staff, board members, and a network of key donors and prospects. The Assistant Director works closely with alumni volunteers to strengthen donor engagement.

     

    Core responsibilities include securing leadership annual and major gifts and building and advancing a robust campaign pipeline through proactive prospect research and identification. The Assistant Director also leads initiatives to secure corporate gifts and sponsorships for select Gillings conferences and major advancement events. The Assistant Director takes a dynamic, results-oriented approach to fundraising, which involves significant interaction with key stakeholders to drive the Gillings fundraising goals and sustain long-term philanthropic support.

    Education and Experience:

    - Three or more years of professional level, direct solicitation/fundraising (or related) experience in a higher education setting in annual giving, major gifts, gift planning, or other transferable skills in a sales setting.

     

    - Experience closing gifts between $10,000 and $100,000.

     

    - Experience using Constituent Relationship Management ( CRM ) software or fundraising databases (ex. Blackbaud).

    Essential Skills:

    - Professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising (or related) experience.

     

    - Experience with the donor cycle, pipeline building, and prospecting.

     

    - Exceptional interpersonal skills.

     

    - Exceptional verbal, written, and listening communication skills.

     

    - Ability to travel 2-3 times per month, including overnight travel.

     

    - Ability to work nights and weekends as required.

     

    - High level of enthusiasm, creativity, and strong drive to be successful.

     

    - Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.

     

    - Demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
