The Infrastructure team provides AWS and Amazon.com with the compute, network and data center capacity that are the foundations of the retail and cloud business.

     

    Amazon is seeking a motivated and data-driven category manager to support the Americas data center operations space. The candidate should have strong supply chain and procurement skills, analytical and financial acumen, communication capabilities and a hands-on passion to dive-deep into processes used in our data center operations network. Additionally, candidate must have proven skills in managing large-scale supply chain and procurement improvement projects.

     

    As a Category Manager for the New Product Introduction (NPI) procurement team, you will create and implement sourcing strategies for the latest technologies, product innovations and design developments in the data center space and collaborate with internal business partners and suppliers to drive efficiencies, reduce production/ construction times, reduce risks, and costs for Amazon. You will develop mechanisms and metrics to hold suppliers accountable for performance and delivery. You will drive results through methods that include competitive bidding, negotiating, and analyzing data and market trends for your category.

    Key job responsibilities

    A successful candidate will demonstrate:

    • Proven experience driving large-scale process improvements resulting in measurable value

    • Experience with NPI processes and managing supply chain from concept development to mass production to launch is preferred. Ability to lead feasibility analysis, conduct cost deep dives and technical acumen to understand and evaluate design specifications and functional parameters.

    • High attention to detail including proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously

    • Ability to think strategically and execute methodically

    • Demonstrated ability to influence teams to adopt change utilizing smart technologies

    • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where ambiguity exists and continuous innovation is desired

    • Committed to learning and expanding professional and technical knowledge

    • Demonstrated analytical, financial and quantitative skills and ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and develop business cases

    • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and do whatever is necessary; general manager / owner mentality

    • Demonstrated ability to dive deep in understanding the product, our business, and the competitive landscape

    • Ability to see ahead comprehensively and devise a strong plan of action, and ensure execution happens on time, every time

    • Ability to get things done and produce conclusive, measurable results within time commitments

    • Strong influencing skills

    Basic Qualifications

    - Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Management, Finance, Engineering, Operations, or other field from an accredited university or 5+ years relevant experience

     

    - 5+ years of relevant strategic sourcing experience including vendor negotiations, global contract management, process improvement , operational and financial analysis

     

    - 5+ years of relevant experience in procurement, supply chain, inventory management and operations

     

    - 5+ years of relevant experience sourcing energy infrastructure design, equipment and construction, such as substations, switchyards, long-lead electrical equipment, energy storage hardware, power generation

    Preferred Qualifications

    - Masters degree in Supply Chain Management, Finance, Engineering or Operations.

     

    - Experience in data centers, engineering, an infrastructure service provider or similar technology company.

     

    - Experience interfacing directly with EPC contractors and utilities through various stages of development and construction, direct coordination with internal and external teams responsible for transmission and distribution facilities at interface with substations/switchyards, and field support during construction and commissioning/testing phases of project

     

    - Familiarity with current engineering principles associated with analysis of power systems, electrical interconnection, battery energy storage systems, microgrid controls, data monitoring/reporting systems

     

    - Familiarity with distributed energy generation, energy management, solar sales, energy regulatory, or similar industries. Understanding of distributed energy market dynamics, including local utility tariff structures and ISO rules and procedures governing distributed energy resources

     

    - Experience measuring key operational metrics (e.g., order cycle time, ship estimate accuracy, on time and complete shipment, inventory record defect rate)

     

    - Experience practicing best-in-class procurement processes (category management, bench-marking, should-cost models, RFX, reverse auction, contracting, etc.).
