Description
Robert Half Technology is searching for an experienced Senior MUMPS Developer who combines strong legacy expertise with hands-on proficiency in modern software development practices. This role is ideal for individuals who have worked on healthcare IT systems and participated in modernization initiatives, including the implementation of standardized code practices, software architecture, and automated testing.
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain and enhance core MUMPS/Cache/IRIS-based applications.
• Drive standardization of code formatting, naming conventions, and modularity in legacy and modern systems.
• Implement and enforce design patterns such as MVC, layered architecture, service-oriented patterns, and separation of concerns.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop specifications, design documents, and transition strategies.
• Define and uphold coding best practices, including secure coding, reusability, and performance optimization.
• Lead the refactoring of legacy routines for readability, testability, and maintainability.
• Develop unit, integration, and regression test plans using automated frameworks where possible.
• Establish and monitor code quality metrics using static code analysis tools.
• Participate in and lead peer code reviews, technical walkthroughs, and design sessions.
Requirements
• Strong MUMPS experience (Cache, GT.M, or IRIS), including global structures, cross-referencing, and modular routine development.
• Expert in implementing code structure discipline, such as:
- Use of standard entry/exit points
- Proper use of local vs. global variables
- Routine naming conventions and documentation headers
• Deep understanding of Object-Oriented Design (OOD) and structured programming principles.
• Proficient in writing unit tests and integration tests in both legacy and modern environments (e.g., MUnit, JUnit, pytest).
• Familiarity with test frameworks and automation tools like:
- InterSystems Test Coverage
- Postman for API testing
- Selenium/Webdriver for front-end validations (if applicable)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Git-based source control, code branching strategies, and deployment automation.
• Familiar with software development life cycle (SDLC) methodologies including Agile, Scrum, or hybrid models.
• Knowledge of secure coding practices (e.g., OWASP Top 10) and compliance standards (HIPAA, PCI DSS).
