Description We are looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our team at a non-profit organization based in New York, New York. In this long-term contract position, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of financial operations, supporting financial reporting, and maintaining organized, transparent records. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who excels in reconciliation, compliance, and financial analysis.
Responsibilities:
• Review and code invoices accurately while ensuring compliance with organizational policies and obtaining necessary approvals.
• Record invoices, payments, and internal bank transfers in the accounting system with precision.
• Process domestic and international payments through various methods, including checks and wire transfers.
• Reconcile monthly bank statements, credit card statements, and vendor accounts, ensuring accuracy and resolving discrepancies.
• Prepare and maintain financial records, logs, and documentation to support audits and compliance filings.
• Assist with the completion of internal and external audits by providing accurate documentation and clear explanations.
• Support compliance filings, including the preparation and submission of 1099 forms.
• Contribute to the monthly financial close process, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
• Collaborate with the Director of Finance to prepare financial reports, cash flow statements, and other analyses.
• Identify opportunities to improve internal accounting processes and implement enhancements. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business administration is preferred.
• A minimum of 6 years of accounting experience, ideally within the non-profit sector.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the use of formulas and pivot tables.
• Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage across diverse cultures.
• Experience with NetSuite or similar accounting software is a plus.
• Familiarity with month-end closing, general ledger management, and financial statement preparation.
