Basic Function:
+ To teach with academic talents and/or gifts that require specially designed instruction, enrichment or support, mentoring in the areas of english language arts and mathematics
+ To teach/work collaboratively with general education instructors in order to support the instruction of students students in the classroom to promote the overall efficiency of the school community, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.
Essential Functions:
+ Identification and Assessment: Identify students who demonstrate exceptional intellectual, creative, talent, abilities and gifts through various assessment tools and observations.
+ Curriculum Development: Design and implement specialized curriculum and instructional strategies tailored to the unique learning needs and interests of gifted and talented students.
+ Differentiated Instruction: Provide differentiated instruction to challenge and support gifted students, ensuring they are appropriately challenged and engaged in learning activities.
+ Collaboration: Collaborate with other educators, administrators, and parents to create a supportive environment that meets the social, emotional, and academic needs of gifted students.
+ Advocacy: Advocate for the needs of gifted and talented students within the school community and beyond, ensuring they have access to appropriate resources, programs, and opportunities.
+ Professional Development: Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in gifted education and instructional techniques.
+ Assessment and Monitoring: Regularly assess and monitor the progress of gifted and talented students, adjusting instructional strategies as needed to meet their evolving needs.
+ Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of student progress and development, and provide clear and timely feedback to students, parents, and colleagues.
+ Counseling and Guidance: Provide guidance and support to gifted and talented students in areas such as goal-setting, academic planning, and personal development.
+ Research and Innovation: Stay abreast of current research and trends in gifted education, and incorporate innovative practices into teaching and curriculum development.
+ Instruction: Provide individual and small group research-based instruction designed to meet individual needs of students based upon data that promotes academic, social and emotional growth.
+ Provide pul-out small group instruction in reading and mathmatics to students in grades 5-8
+ Provide academic support, mentoring and information on scholarship to students entitled to Extended Learning Program Services in grades 9-12
Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s Degree required
+ Valid Iowa Teaching License
+ License Endorsement: Have or be able to obtain: 107 ---Talented and gifted teacher-coordinator
+ Current Mandatory Reporter: Child Abuse Certification and Dependent Adult Abuse Certification
+ Background Check
