    **Shift:** Shift 1

    **Work Schedule:** 8 Hr (8:00:00 AM - 4:30:00 PM)

    **Pay Range:** $27.47 - $43.27 per hour

    Summary:

    The Senior Exercise Physiologist is responsible for performing and interpreting stress testing under physician supervision using predefined stress protocols. The Senior Exercise Physiologist will ensure the safety of each patient receiving stress testing by closely monitoring each test. Assists in monitoring and ensuring the effectiveness, efficiency and quality of the daily operations. Will demonstrate highly developed skills in the coordination and delivery of patient care, leadership initiatives and the ability to perform administrative duties throughout the labs. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.

    Required Job Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in exercise physiology or exercise science OR ASEP board certified as an Exercise Physiologist Certified (EPC).

    • CPR certified.

    • Cardiac Stress Test experience.

    • Excellent communication skills.

    • Ability to work as a team member; ability to mediate disputes and council and motivate staff.

    • Computer literate.

    Preferred Job Qualifications:

    • CPR certified, ACLS.

    Physical Demands:

    • Must be able to work in limited exposure to radiation.

    • Must be able to assist in moving patients up to 300 pounds from cart/wheel chair to exam table.

    Responsibilities:

    1. Monitors and supervises patient’s stress test. Interprets the stress test and completes the appropriate report.

    2. Serves as the key focal point for patient testing, coordinating the process among nursing, EKG technicians and Nuclear Radiology Technicians. Functions as a patient advocate, responsible for the total care of the patient while in the lab.

    3. Ensures that physician reports are disseminated to referring physicians in a timely manner.

    4. Coordinates quality patient care for procedures and tests in accordance with the physicians in charge and established clinical standards of practice.

    5. Reviews indications for each procedure and ensures an absence of an absolute contraindication and maintains pertinent records and progress of patients undergoing stress testing. Refers patients for urgent or immediate care as appropriate. Notifies medical director or attending physician when adverse events occur.

    6. Serves as a resource for the Cardiac Stress Test team and is familiar with equipment in the Stress Test department.

    7. Supervises and participates in patient education classes related to topics of risk factor modification, nutrition, medications, exercise guidelines, etc.

    8. Provides and documents patient education (reading, hands – on, audio/visual, and written) according to JCAHO standards.

    9. Maintains own professional growth and development through formal and informal educational activities.

    10. Anticipates, implements, and evaluates the timely use of physician resources, staff, ancillary services and equipment in response to critical patient situations.

    11. Assures that all emergency support systems are operational

    12. Complies with established radiation safety standards and practices.

    13. Maintains program to meet all Joint Commission, federal, and state requirements

    14. Capable of operating all equipment used in the stress testing labs, including computerized ECG-Treadmill systems, computerized cardiopulmonary testing systems, defibrillators and infusion pumps.

    15. Assures proper function, maintenance and repair of all equipment.

    16. Experienced in the use of computers from an equipment basis as well as PC based information systems.

    17. Contributes to the maintenance of a safe environment.

    18. Serves as contact person for patients, physicians, the Section of Cardiology and all other departments. Serves as the representative for any cross-departmental initiatives or issues, including physicians, nursing and radiology.

    19. Assists in ensuring high quality services by evaluating standards, policies and procedures. Compiles quarterly quality assurance data.

    20. .Manages all procedural and office processes in an efficient customer oriented manner.

    21. Assists in evaluating the effectiveness of new methods, supplies and equipment and communicates outcomes.

    22. Maintains routine and varied records and provides information for section requests, administrative reports and forecasting needs.

    23. Responsible for maintaining equipment, pharmacy stock, and supply inventory.

    24. Oversees the creation and distribution processes for the final procedural report.

    25. Attends all educational programs and uses the information.

    26. Develops and implements staff and patient educational programs.

    27. Assists with clinical supervision of students.

    28. Assists in the orientation of Cardiology Fellows to the routine and function of the laboratories.

    29. Participates actively in in-service programs, including orientation of all new personnel, nursing, technical, and clerical.

    30. Serves as departmental contact for any research.

    31. Participates in the development and/or implementation of research studies.
