Description
The City of Detroit's Department of Transportation (DDOT) is currently seeking Transportation Emergency Dispatchers for the DDOT Vehicle Operation Division.
Under general supervision, on an assigned shift, the Transportation Emergency Dispatcher receives reports of transportation operating emergencies by radio, telephone, and computer terminal to determine appropriate remedial actions using radio and telephone to provide instructions to operating personnel, and to relay information and instructions to operators, service inspectors, and other divisions and departments involved.
Examples of Duties
+ Receive by telephone, radio, and computer terminal, reports of accidents, detours, fires, equipment breakdowns, and other operating and maintenance emergencies.
+ Contact Transportation Equipment Operators (TEO), Service Inspectors, terminal personnel, police, fire, and other agencies, to obtain information bearing on transportation emergencies.
+ Use multiple channel radio console and telephones to relay information and instructions to TEO's, Service Inspectors, and police and fire agencies.
+ Instruct TEO's regarding measures to take in cases of coach malfunction.
+ Maintain continuous logs of the location and movements of emergency crews and field investigation personnel, healthy coach reports, and similar section logs, as assigned.
+ Enter incident data into computer by keyboard entry devices to dispose of dispatch calls.
+ Write brief reports in standard format of accidents, injuries, and other major incidents affecting service.
+ Operate office security monitor, telephone equipment, master recording monitors and other related equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications (required):
+ High School graduation or G.E.D.
+ Three (3) years of experience in operational phases of a large urban transit system.
Qualifications (preferred):
+ Advanced training in transportation methods.
+ Three (3) years of experience in station operation and service supervision.

RETIREMENT BENEFITS
City Employees Retirement System
As a regular City employee you automatically become a member of the General Retirement System. This entitles you to a retirement allowance after:
• Completion of thirty (30) years of service;
- At age sixty (60) if you have at least ten (10) years of service, or
- At age sixty-five (65) with eight (8) years of service.
• In the event of disability, other eligibility rules apply);
- An early, actuarially reduced, retirement is offered after you have attained at least twenty-five (25) years of service;
• Employees are vested after ten (10) years of service, regardless of age.
