    Salary Range: $ 122,958 - $ 174,060 ( Grade A )

    Position Summary

    The Senior Director of Strategic Communications will serve as a key strategist and tactical leader, responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that align with New York City Transit’s operating and strategic priorities. Reporting to the Chief of Staff in the Office of the President, this role will be instrumental in advancing the President’s initiatives, promoting organizational goals, and managing culture change across the agency. The successful candidate will lead the design and execution of multi-platform communications that promote transparency and communicate key performance metrics and agency priorities. This position requires close collaboration with executive leadership, external partners, and internal departments to ensure consistent, effective messaging.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Develop and implement communication strategies that align with NYCT’s Strategic Operating Plan, including performance metrics, major initiatives, and fact-based messaging.

    + Lead coordination between NYCT and the MTA Headquarters Communications and Press Office to manage all media-related inquiries, campaigns, and crisis communications.

    + Serve as the primary speechwriter and content creator for the President, developing remarks, internal announcements, external messaging, and social media content.

    + Act as a liaison between the Office of the President and MTA departments in the development of MTA Committee and Board materials. Develop strategic themes and messaging to support NYCT’s Strategic Operating Plan and serve as the lead writer of the President’s monthly Committee remarks. Coordinate and consolidate Departmental Remarks and related presentations for the Committee and Board Meetings

    + Oversee the creation and dissemination of internal communications materials, including newsletters and updates via platforms such as the MTA Today channel.

    + Cultivate and promote storytelling efforts to enhance employee engagement and reinforce a culture where employees feel seen, heard, and valued.

    + Stay informed on industry trends and foster relationships across the transportation sector to support NYCT’s goals and operations.

    + Promote strong internal collaboration and lead communication efforts that support safety, ridership development, and employee-focused initiatives.

    Education/Experience

    + Bachelor’s degree required (or a satisfactory equivalent).

    + Degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Journalism, Political Science or a related field preferred.

    + Minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience.

    + At least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity.

    + Proven ability to lead communications in a high-profile, public-facing organization.

    Desired Skills

    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the talent to communicate complex quantitative concepts in a clear and succinct way to internal stakeholders.

    • Strong interpersonal skills with an established history of working on projects requiring group consensus and cooperation among people with no direct reporting relationships.

    • Must be capable of building a strong and successful network, developing new relationships and influencing decision makers.

    • Demonstrated ability to work in team and/or group settings, including team process and staff development skills.

    • Ability to prioritize among competing needs and opportunities and manage multiple projects at the same time.
