Position Objective:
This position is directly responsible for the daily coordination of all medical assessment center activities and interacts daily with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the medical assessment center runs smoothly and efficiently. This position is also responsible for providing oversight to case management activities. This includes assessment, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of injured/ill employees involved in the case management program.
Responsibilities:
• Directly supervises all Staff Nurses
• Administers medical policies and procedures
• Tracks, schedules, monitors all medical surveillance exams, FRA Exams and required exams
• Performs screening elements for FRA or Federally mandates surveillance exams
• Performs case management oversight, when required, which includes working with a multidisciplinary team designed to monitor the progress of the injured worker, oversight review of employee cases, charts and all pertinent reports, lab work, etc.,
• Contacts providers and insurance carriers to coordinate appropriate treatment plan.
• Ensures the safe return to work of employees with occupational and non-occupational injuries
• Performs drug and alcohol collections on employees/candidates as needed
• Assists with drug and alcohol testing of follow-up program participants
• Calibrates equipment daily
• Troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment and reports findings to vendor and Manager of Nurses
• Trains new staff
• Performs monthly quality assurance on diagnostic testing capabilities of all staff
• Provides daily Laboratory Activity reports to immediate supervisor
• Assists physicians, as needed, with examinations/evaluations
• Assists with development and implementation of wellness programs for employees
• Order supplies as needed
• Enters all data collected from each test into electronic Medical Records System
• Performs daily audits on all data entries
• Administers Hepatitis B, Tetanus-Diphtheria and Influenza vaccines as needed, and Hepatitis B titers as indicated
• Monitors temperature of vaccine refrigerator and records in daily logbook
• Provides emergency care to employees/candidates
• Monitors flow of employees throughout the Medical Assessment Center
• Maintain testing rooms-keep neat and well stocked examination areas
• Provides testimony and/or affidavits for hearings and trials
• Interacts with Designated Employer Representatives (DERs), Medical Review Officers (MROs) and physicians
• Is held accountable for overseeing and evaluating contractor performance, where applicable:
+ Observing the work performed by the contractor
+ Reviewing invoices and approving them if the work has contractual standards
+ Addressing performance issues with the contractor when possible
+ Escalating issues to other parties as needed
• Other duties as assigned.
Required :
• Minimum of three years’ experience as a Staff Nurse. Occupational Health experience preferred.
• Must possess a valid NY State Nursing License.
• CPR-D certified.
• Phlebotomy skills required.
• Knowledge of case management and workers’ compensation laws.
• Computer skills required.
• Must possess good interpersonal skills.
• Must successfully complete Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) Certification course to become BAT certified under DOT/FRA r e gulatory guidelines.
Preferred :
• CAOHC certification.
• Knowledge of FRA medical policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of medical policies and procedures.
Other Information
May need to work outside of normal work hours (i.e., evenings and weekends)
Travel may be required to other MTA locations or other external sites .
