Job Description
Join a leading forklift manufacturer on-site in Columbus, IN as a Production Engineer, where you will be involved in the end-to-end assembly process of custom forklifts and play a crucial role in setting up and moving manufacturing processes for both existing and new facilities.
This company's manufacturing facility includes processes for sheet metal cutting and fabrication, steel saw cutting, CNC machining, press brake and hydraulic press forming, manual and robotic MIG welding, resistance welding, powder coating, painting, assembly, and inspection as well as processes specific to our product including hydraulic cylinder and hose manufacturing.
The production engineer position is split into 4 primary responsibilities: Capital Projects (35-40%), Troubleshooting (10%), downtime/quality investigations (20-30%), and Tooling Design/Design for Manufacturing (10%). Within capital projects they will be focused on identifying areas to reduce headcount and automate further. For troubleshooting anytime the line has an issue they will support if maintenance cannot correct.
Responsibilities
+ Manage capital projects, focusing on automation and headcount reduction.
+ Assist in troubleshooting equipment issues when maintenance cannot resolve them.
+ Investigate downtime and quality issues to improve production processes.
+ Design tooling and ensure design for manufacturing, using prints from the new product development team.
+ Engage in project management responsibilities, including working with vendors and suppliers, managing new launch activities, and overseeing machine builds and installations.
+ Support design for manufacturing work related to tooling, fixtures, and machines using CATIA.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
+ Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience post-graduation or internship experience with multiple rotations within the same company.
+ Experience with capital projects, including managing schedules, contractors, installation, troubleshooting, and run-offs.
+ Proficiency in tooling and fixture design, with a focus on design for manufacturing.
+ Strong mechanical aptitude.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in manufacturing engineering, particularly in paint manufacturing and powder coating.
+ Familiarity with CATIA software.
Work Environment
This role involves a balance between floor and office support, with core hours from 6:30 am to 3:30 pm. Overtime is paid during the contract period but not once converted to full-time. Upon conversion, non-production workdays offer 1-to-1 comp time similar to PTO, with a rollover option for 40 hours. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.06 - $38.46/hr.
