    Job Title: Distribution Technician

    Job Description

    As a Distribution Technician, you will design distribution routes for an Engineering and Construction Services Contractor. This role does not require you to be a licensed engineer. You will take ownership of projects from start to finish, beginning with an engineered scope of work. Your duties will include field verification of existing facilities, designing new facilities, customer communications, permitting, entering data in the utility's work management system, CAD-produced drawings, staking, and preparing job packets for construction.

    Responsibilities

    + Design overhead and underground rebuilds, and overhead to underground conversions.

    + Conduct voltage conversions and substation feeder exits.

    + Manage red-tagged pole replacements.

    + Work with the pole inspection group to design replacements for poles that need to be replaced.

    + Communicate with customers and manage permitting processes.

    + Enter data into the utility’s work management system and produce CAD drawings.

    + Prepare job packets for construction.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficiency in distribution design and utility design.

    + Experience with SAP, fiber, telecommunication, and gas systems.

    + 1+ years of Xcel Energy Design experience, preferably in electric distribution.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Familiarity with gas distribution is considered an asset.

    Work Environment

    You will primarily work in Western Wisconsin, from La Crosse up to Iron Mountain, MI, and Southern Minnesota. You must reside in Wisconsin or Eastern Minnesota. For pole replacement work, you have the option to field poles first for data collection, followed by design, or focus solely on design. Fieldwork involves 2-3 days a week, twice a month. Participate in a pilot program with no travel required. The work environment is stable due to diverse projects and clients, allowing flexibility to support different groups when needed. The role supports upcoming government initiatives like pole replacement, aging infrastructure, fiber to home expansion, and rural broadband.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $40.00/hr.
