    The Brooklyn Center Community Schools (BCCS) District is seeking applicants to join our Brooklyn Center Secondary Teaching team as aMiddle School Foundations Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year. BCCS Secondary Teachers perform difficult professional work teaching a broad range of subjects or specialized subject matter(s), motivating students to achieve maximum potential, and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the general direction of the Principal.

    Job Summary:

    The Middle School Foundations Teacher prepares students for a successful transition from elementary to middle school while supporting their continued academic and personal growth. This position implements a comprehensive Tier 1 program for 6th-grade students that incorporates AVID strategies, advisory curriculum, literacy development, social-emotional learning, and college and career awareness, all aligned with Brooklyn Center Community Schools' justice-centered educational approach. The Foundations Teacher will create an inclusive, supportive classroom environment that nurtures student agency, belonging, and the unique genius of each learner. This is a new position, and curriculum development will be a primary focus for this role.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Transitional Support Programming

    + Design and implement a comprehensive 6th-grade transition program that builds foundational skills for middle school success

    + Create developmentally appropriate learning experiences that support students' adjustment to middle school structures, expectations, and routines.

    + Facilitate orientation activities that help students navigate their new school environment, including procedures and protocols.

    + Collaborate with elementary school staff to ensure smooth transitions for incoming 6th graders.

    + Support students in developing organizational skills, time management, and study habits essential for middle school success.

    Academic Skill Development

    + Implement AVID strategies and methodologies to develop students' academic skills, critical thinking, and prepare them for college and career readiness.

    + Design and deliver a literacy-rich curriculum that strengthens reading comprehension, writing skills, and communication abilities

    + Integrate project-based learning opportunities that develop research skills and independent learning capabilities.

    + Use formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress and provide targeted interventions

    + Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs and styles

    Social-Emotional Learning and Student Agency

    + Create a classroom culture that fosters student voice, agency, and a sense of belonging.

    + Implement our advisory curriculum focused on social-emotional development, identity exploration, and community building.

    + Design learning experiences that help students develop self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making

    + Support students in developing self-advocacy skills and empowering them to be active participants in their education.

    + Facilitate restorative practices that build community and address conflict, aligning with the district's justice-centered approach.

    College and Career Awareness

    + Expose students to diverse career pathways and post-secondary options through age-appropriate activities and lessons.

    + Coordinate guest speakers, field trips, and other experiences that expand students' understanding of future possibilities.

    + Help students make connections between current learning and future aspirations.

    + Support students in exploring their interests, strengths, and potential career interests.

    + Begin building a foundation for long-term educational planning

    Collaboration and Professional Responsibilities

    + Work collaboratively with grade-level teams, content area specialists, counselors, and support staff to ensure alignment of services.

    + Participate in professional learning communities to enhance instructional practices and program development.

    + Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and program outcomes to track student progress and performance.

    + Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, program activities, and ways to support student success.Engage in ongoing professional development related to middle school transitions, AVID, SEL, and justice-centered educational practices.

    Qualifications:MN Teaching licensure, 6-12,Bachelor's degree with coursework in social services, education, or related fieldDuty Days:197 duty days, 7:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. includes 8 paid holidays!

     

    Pay and Benefits: $45,008/year- $98,396/year, based on education and experience
