BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY:
The Lead, Operations is responsible for helping the shift supervisor oversee and direct a workforce of hourly associates while performing any combination of tasks to ensure the orderly, timely, and correct flow of materials and product for selection, packaging, and shipment within the warehouse. Tasks may include but are not limited to retrieving, assembly and distribution of material(s), inspecting materials for packaging, preparing materials for shipment or storage by placing items in appropriate areas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide on-going direction to Warehouse Associates to satisfy customer needs while ensuring accuracy, quality, and timeliness of products and services.
• Assist the shift supervisor with daily tasks, may include but not limited to; attendance, job and supply set up, and production functions.
• Assists to implement procedures provided by management to improve inventory accuracy and efficiency.
• Plans the daily work assignments for the warehouse associates including order picking, packaging, sorting and put away as required. Achieves productivity and accuracy goals.
• Inspects and reports inventory/product quality issues, overages, shortages, discrepancies to the supervisor/warehouse leadership in a timely manner.
• Survey inside building specifically warehouse floor for security concerns daily.
• Responsible for the safety and security of all associates. Maintains safe working practices, conditions in the facility, and takes actions to correct any unsafe practices and / or conditions.
• Coordinate appropriate training for all associates to empower individuals to meet performance expectations. This includes initial training, development, and specific follow up training needs. • Maintains compliance with ISO9001 standard within the facility.
• Supports the Safety Culture by following established SOP’s.
• Engages in the local Safety Culture through safety team support and offering safety suggestions.
• Assists department supervisors in identifying risk to associates/business and mitigate those risks.
• Participates in team assignments, task forces as required and submits daily reports as required.
• Facilitates personnel policies and operations procedures to meet company standards of performance. Provides an effective and acceptable means for associates to bring problems and complaints to the attention of the facility center supervisor/manager.
• Supports and promotes continuous improvement initiatives throughout the facility center.
• Ensure proper coverage is coordinated before breaks and batching orders.
• Full understanding of the facility process and helps to support leadership with overall building operations and goals.
• Continually assist to develop associate strengths and skills with warehouse tasks and ensure to utilize all team members inclusively.
• Fosters the MSC Culture in the department and throughout the company to ensure fulfillment of MSC’s vision and unity of purpose.
• Counts, weighs, or measures incoming or outgoing items to compare identifying information and variety against bills, invoices, oral instructions, orders, or other records; may use manual means or material handling equipment.
• Complies with all shipping/receiving regulations and work standards according to regulations, especially D.O.T specifications.
• Handling of products include opening containers, using steel cutters, blades, or other hand tools; loads and unloads materials unto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand or by utilizing proper power lift equipment.
• Ensure all product/cargo for transport is properly secured and weight is safely and evenly distributed.
• Ensure that product staged and stored is placed in safe areas and at safe heights.
• Maintains alert regarding safety procedures and proper handling of hazardous materials, taking care to work within warehouse safety guidelines and government regulations.
• Actively participates in housekeeping activities including inspection of and maintaining cleanliness or work areas.
• Participation in special projects and perform additional duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
What You Need:
• High school diploma or the equivalent is required.
• 1—3 years of experience in a distribution center with a general knowledge of distribution controls and operations required.
• Must be able to read and write in English.
• Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating, procedure manuals and maintenance instructions.
• Strong leadership skills. Able to effectively lead and direct a team of hourly associates.
• Strong customer focus and results driven and highly adaptable.
• Working knowledge of ASI software. • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).
• Ability to work flexible hours including the day or afternoon shift and overtime as required.
• Ability to effectively communicate and follow instructions in oral and written form.
• Must be able to add, subtract, multiply and divide all units of measure with or without a handheld calculator.
• Must be able to easily recognize and compare numeric combinations accurately and quickly.
• Proficient in using RF scanners or label gun.
• Knowledge of the ability to operate automated or computerized warehouse management operating systems
• Must be able to independently draft routine reports and correspondence.
• Valid Driver’s license or ability to be certified and/or ability to use/operate other power industrial equipment.
Other Requirements -
*Essential Duties:
• Job takes place in a warehouse/operations setting.
• Requires regular lifting of up to 50-60 pounds; safety shoes are required to protect feet.
• Involves extensive periods of standing, bending, stooping, reaching, walking, pushing, and pulling required to load, stack, sort, package and handle warehouse products, materials, and inventory from the warehouse floor.
• Must be able to lift; 50-60 pounds (US) and push a wheeled cart weighing up to 100-150 pounds (US)
• Must be able to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
